Comments about Nikon Nikon 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Micro - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:
As a wedding photographer this lens is great for that ring shot and that tight head shot to, the only thing is cost compared to everybody else.

This is one of the most used lenses in my (too large) collection. It is a perfect lens for macro and handles the R1 and tubes with ease. It is also one of my go-to lenses for portraits. Very sharp, fast, very well balanced - it is a fantastic lens.I bought mine as a refrub from Adorama and could not be happier. The only difference from new is the box (and I have never mounted a box to a camera...). [...]
Comments about Nikon Nikon 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Micro - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:
The lens is super sharp, and is long enough to be a reasonable macro /micro lens. However, it breaths a lot, the aperture is smaller at closer focal lengths making this not as useful for portraiture as one might otherwise expect. VR is not all that helpful at very close focal distances. I went and got a 70-180mm micro instead which I find to be a much more useful micro lens (and great for panno stiching) and use a 70-200mm f/2.8 or 135mm f/2 for portraits. Of course the one is out of production and the other twice as expensive ...

I was super excited to get this lens. And it didn't disappoint. In fact, I am constantly surprised/amazed by this lens. THe images are extremely sharp- even at f2.8 and the Macro capabilities are great. This lens is super contrasty as well. And the DOF is ridiculously awesome!

This really is an excellent lens. In addition to macro shots, it's also a reasonably good portrait lens. I only have to minor complaints: 1) auto-focus during macro shooting is very indecisive (I usually stick to manual focus, anyhow) and 2) the camera reports an erroneous aperture value at the macro end. I thought the lens was a lemon until I read about the issue on Nikon's website. Like I said, these are just minor issues, and they haven't prevented me from getting some great shots using this lens.

I have been wanting to get into macro photography and looked into third party lenses. I bought this refurbished lens and what a joy it is. Often the picture I visualized just didn't work out until I got this lens. Bokeh is magnificent. A good investment.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Micro - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:
I was very interested in micro photography from the weekly gallery in photo[@]. After much study, I decided to purchase the Nikon 105mm/2.8. I have had the lens for about 6 weeks and I am thoroughly pleased with its performance both on the micro level and as a landscape and portrait lens. The lens is extremely well built. The weight and dimensions of the lens seem to complement my D300. Recently, a near disaster happened when I picked up my camera bag. It was completely unzipped and the 105/2.8 fell out of the bag about 4 feet above a concrete floor. My new lens hit the concrete and rolled a couple of feet. Due to the "battleship" construction of the lens, it was undamaged without even a blemish from the fall. If it was cheaply constructed it would be gone!
