This is the lens I was missing in my collection. I use it mostly to take a lot of funny pictures of my kids and capture all the surroundings, especially outdoors. This lens performs excellent in low light conditions.

Great lens when you need that extra bit of coverage. Don't be afraid to use it more than others will recommend. You can correct the distortion if needed with the Hemi-Fisheye plug-in which will expand the use of this lens.

The lens is 180 degrees, which is great in itself, but with the fisheye perspective it also gives an interesting and different point of view to the shots. While using it all the time would get tiring for the viewer, an appropriate shot or two with this lens adds some great spice to any photoshoot.--Steve B

This lens will open your eyes to a whole different perspective on the world. We normally don't see the world in 180 degree panoramas. This lens does have distortion, but after all, it is a fisheye. In fact, I find myself tilting the lens up or down to exaggerate this distortion and thereby creating a more interesting image. When held normally so as to minimize the distortion, it can be corrected with Nikon software and/or Photoshop. This gives you the best of both. A super-wide angle lens for those times you just can't back up any farther, and a fisheye for you creative side.

The lens cap is a slip on design that slips over the built in, and non-detachable, lens hood. Well made and everything you would expect with the Nikon name.

A word of caution. The front element is domed and prevents the use of a protective filter. This lens focuses to less than one inch from the front element. The danger is that the view through the finder does not give you the impression you are that close to the subject. Take care of this lens as you would any other expensive camera gear. Being aware of this issue by checking your proximity to the subject, will make your photos fun, interesting and different from the average.

Tested several fisheyes including the Sigma. Nikon makes the best. I have learned my lesson. Spend the money for a Nikon.

I have lusted for a fish eye lens for ages and finally decided I would make this a gift for myself. I am a photojournalist with a local newspaper and wanted to have a lens to play with and do some creative work. Just got the lens last week and am attaching my very first shot taken at the office. Sure, there is distortion...that's what a fish eye was designed to do...that's what makes it fun. Although I haven't had time to use this lens very much I love it and plan to spend hours at play. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to have some fun with photography. Forgot to add that I use this with the D80.

I really enjoyed playing with the distortion from this lens. The DX format made for exquisite compositions on my Nikon D300. The f/2.8 makes for nice low light pictures and beautiful images when coupled with a speedlight.

Just because its fish dont think it cant be used for wide sweeping landscapes, because it can. It will challenge your compostion skills some and a few steps back or foward along with a till of the camera up or down and you have a completely different view. The IQ of the lens is awesome, the colors are deeply saturated and the flare and CA are next to nonexistent. The close focusing distance allows for some great perspectived shots along with incredibily shallow DOF.

I enjoy experimenting with lenses and my D200. The 10.5 Fisheye has opened a new window for me in the genre of wide-angle photography. At nighttime, using a high ISO, the 10.5 is a revelatiion. The fisheye effect is downright fun, but I always have the option of "straightening" the lines in Photoshop. The lens has dramatic uses when photographing pets and children. An extreme close-up of a canine face is dramatic as the lens has a DOF of a mere few inches to beyond infinity. Set at F2.8, the bokeh effect is a new experience. The resolution quality is excellent, even indoors with or without my SB400 flash. Try a full bookshelf or a closet full of hanging shirts with all their stripes, checkered patterns, and even white solids. The clarity and texture is remarkable for this lightweight, but powerful little lens. Most importantly to me, at least, the 10.5 is a dellightful way to reinvigorate my photography.

Having used Nikon equipment and lens for 35 years, this fisheye 10.5 mm,F2.5 is one of my most unique and interesting lens. The sharpness and clarity of the images are wonderful and come close to the quality I have from my R-type lenses for my R9+Digital Module Leica. In the months to come and with an eager imaginative attitude, I expect to see many wonderful and unique pictures captured from this lens. I wish there were some kind of front filter to protect the lens further as I always use filters to protect my lenses. But I know because the view of this lens is so wide, front filter is impossible. Other than that, this lens is perfect eventhough it requires lots of practice to produce usuable photos.

If you ever wanted to get in large areas of view this lens is awesome. I'm sure that there are many uses and special effects capable with this lens. One in particular that I used it for was sitting at a table with many of my friends. I caught all expressions in one frame. It would have not been possible with any other lens.

I bought this for wedding photography and to fill the gap in my W.A. selection. I go down to 17mm which was still too narrow for shots in the limo, at the altar when I am really close and some reception shots.

This is a very sharp lens. The colors with this lens seem to be better than colors from any other Nikon lens I own. It just has a quality of its own, like the 85 f/1.4. I love using this as a rectilinear lens after running it through software to straighten the lines. Fantastic! Highly recommended.

Lets start with the weaknesses - there is definitely CA in bright contrasty conditions. Using Capture NX, converting to BW or taking time in PS can correct a lot of it.

That aside, this is a terrific lens. It is fast, fast focusing (okay, it is a 10.5 fisheye so it has almost infinite depth of field so fast focusing is a given). I bought it to shoot skateboarders and it excelled at that. I use it for city landscapes, party pic's, extreme sport pics and just to be crazy.

If you cannot have fun with this lens, you don't know how to have fun. It is a little pricey but I love it.

This lens is an amazing tool to have in your bag. Along with nikon capture software you can straighten out the distorted image perfectly with only very minimal edge distortions. Lens is very bright and snappy. Be careful not to loose the lens cap as it is very hard to get a replacement.

I have used this lens for great band photos, arenas, and the Large ferris wheel at the State Fair of Texas. Clean, very wide picture! great if you can afford a lens that is not used in everyday situations!
