Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - Gray Market:

I bought the 16-85mm lens literally an hour before leaving for the airport for China last August. It replaced the kit lens for my D40 and did not disappoint in the least. Just a little extra wide and a little extra long. I came back with spectacular photos.

Early this year, I upgraded my body to the D90 and the lens didn't work so well. It would stop focusing, leaving me no choice but to use the manual mode. When I took it in to get it checked, it was the lens that needed a repair. Unfortunately, I chose the refurbished model from Adorama to save some money. They assured me it was the same, if not better, than new. Now I have to pay to have the lens serviced, since Nikon products from Adorama only carry a 90 day warranty.

Next time I will brand new!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - Gray Market:

The 18-55 which comes with most Nikon digitals, is the 35mm equivalent 27 mm to 82 mm. This lens is equivalent to 24 to 128 mm!

If you are happy with 28 mm, go with the 18-55, BUT, if you need and love the extra wideness of a 24 mm equivalent, AND want it in one package with a respectable medium range telephoto (128mm) buy the 16-85 VR. the drawback? It is an expensive lens; but when I still shot 35 mm film, my Nikon 24-120 lens rarely left my camera.

Honestly, I buy second and third lenses, and wind up leaving them at home

Bought used in Demo condition. Arrived in perfect condition. My copy serial # starts with the letters US. so I don't think it is grey market. [...] The lens is very sharp. Has nice contrast as well. Does have noticable distortion at 16mm which can be corrected. Vr works great. Hopefully the replacement will start at f/2.8 instead of f/3.5. Zoom ring is nice and tight but smooth. No zoom creep. Perfect focal length for a walk around lens.

I was wondering if I should buy 18-200mm f.3.5 VR or this one 16-85mm lens for my Nikon D300 camera. I did the online research and I found this is a shaper lens than 18-200mm one and 16mm wide angle is great!! I love it. Its a great walk around lens and I also bought the Nikon 70-300mm Ed-IF VR, they are perfectly fit in my camera backpack and cover what I need!!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - Gray Market:

I replaced this lens with my 18-200 tamron and 28-75 tamron and added it to my 70-300 VR. VR is very useful in low light and even more effective than my 28-75 2.8 tamron. I have found the 16-85 VR to to very useful and a great walk around lens than the older 18-70 kit lens. Focus is slighly slower than the 18-70 but not a huge deal breaker. See my hand held examples of this great Nikkor lens.
