Very nice lense, The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is its low light short commings. if you need low light capability get this lense plus a prime lense such as the 35mm 1.8 or 2.0. depending on your budget

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
I love this lens. The only complaint I have about this lens is that when using filters for wide angle lenses you need to use a thin filter and this makes it hard to keep your lens cap in place.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
I got my Nikon 16-85mm from Adorama about five months ago and it's a great lens, sharp and fast focusing. I used it on my D80 for a month and then got my D300s and it is a dream on both cameras. I got it for a general purpose/walk around lens. The VR works great and its manual focus is superb. It has a good substantial heft or feel and the auto focus is extremely fast, silent and accurate. This lens feels like a pro-level model. I love the wide 16mm end because it saves me changing to my wide angle. I own 6 Nikon AF lenses and a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8. I have a good copy of the Nikon 18-55mm VR and it is a good lens but this lens is so much better.
My only caveat is as other reviewers have noted, I wish it was a faster lens. If this lens was f2.8 or faster it would be the perfect lens and probably would cost two grand.
I'm still pleased that I bought this one – no buyer's remorse and I appreciate it more everyday.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
I purchased this lens as a replacement for the 18-105mm VR kit lens. The 16-85mm is very sharp and has a great focal range. The 2 extra mm at the wide end are very useful.I noticed some distortion at 16mm but it can easily be fixed in photoshop. I did not notice any CA at all. The lens has nice color rendition and contrast. The VR really works nicely and you are able to capture shots at slower shutter speeds. I wish it was a constant f/4. Overall a fantastic everyday lens from Nikon.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
A very sharp lens, purchased to work with a Nikon D90. The combination makes it a single solution for photography at the highest level. After much looking I chose this lens over many other similar, but less expensive lenses. It is pricey, but the combination of robust construction and flawless performance makes the price worth paying.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
I replaced a broken 18-135 with this lens. I cannot tell you how happy I am with this lens. For a zoom lens it is very sharp and quick to focus. The extra 2mm on the wide end is very useful while the 85 makes this a great walk-about lens. The only change I could ask Nikon for would be to make this in a faster lens. But, the VR makes this seem quicker than it is.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
I always prefer wide angle lenses for most of my work in Cave Photography. The 16mm point is ideal for working in confined spaces. I also use this lens for close-up shots and usually with a good quality B + W close-up filter ( no.1 diopter ). I do not want to risk dust getting onto the sensor while changing lenses so this type of zoom suits me very well. I made the mistake of using a cheap chinese UV filter which severely reduced the picture quality. I now use a B + W filter with no problems. I have used this lens for over 8 months now and am very happy with the picture quality. Thats the number one requirement. Lens buyers often assume a powerful tele lens is always needed, however in the "Real World" that is not the case.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
[...] was looking for a better walk-around lens than the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my camera (D50 and new D5000). The 55mm reach is just too short. I considered the 18-200mm lens, which is a better range for a walk-around. You pay a price for having a lens with that kind of range though. The price comes in terms of added distortion and fringing. This price was too high for me. While the 16-85mm does not have the range, it does cover about 90 percent of what I typically shoot. You will get some distortion, but that is normal with all lenses of this type. The 16-85mm has about half the distortion of the 18-200 and, at least according to reviews, is much sharper.I have been very pleased with this lens. Being able to go just a little wider, 16 instead of 18mm, has been a big plus that helps offset only reaching to 85mm (127.5mm in DX format). Photos are sharp. The auto focus is quick. It's just a great lens. One con I want to throw out over my cheap, plasticy 18-55mm kit lens (which takes great pictures, by the way), is it's heavy. I know I'm going against the grain here, but I like the weight of those cheap Nikon lenses everyone seems to complain about - at least when I'm walking around all day with a camera hanging around my neck. With that said... I'll quit complaining. Unless you have a lot more money to spend on an F2.8 lens and are willing to deal with even more weight, this 16-85mm lens is a real winner! I highly recommend it.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
I just received this lens after having sent back the 18-105 that wasn't living up to the Nikon standard. This lens focuses quickly and sharply. I haven't done much testing the VR but at first glance it appears to be quite valuable. I would have liked a little more length but it works well with my 70-300. All in all it looks and feels solid and produces sharp focus. It's only weakness is when using the on board flash with the lens hood. It leaves a thumb shaped image on the bottom of the frame and centered left to right. That is overcome by removing the lens hood.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
The 16-85mm was a perfect mate for my 70-300 VR on my D90. However, I began to see from the beginning that my shots weren't very sharp. I sent the lens to Nikon but they said it was within specks. I've had the 16-85 for nearly a year and use it regularly, but I wish my version was as good as the mtf figures suggest. When I need sharp images I resort to my 50 f/1.8. The VRII is great and focus speed is adequate. I really can't find anything wrong with the 16-85 except the IQ. If you get a good version you'll be very happy.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
Nice lens. I sold a 18-200 to get the additional wide angle, and this is just enough. Now I can leave the 12-24 when I'm traveling light. Distortion is less on this lens than the 18-200, and it is nice and small. I would prefer a constant f4 even if the filter size went to 72mm.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
I specifically bought this lens to go with my D90 as a general purpose lens. The slightly wider angle provided by this lens as compared to many others, does have the advantage at times. The extra width of view has really been very helpful more than once. Generally I shoot at f/8 as a general rule, with my D90 at ISO at 400. Images will enlarge wonderfully well even with some cropping. Generally I do not stop down below f/16 when I need the additional depth of field. This is a very nice lens for general use. I use it often with a B+W thin circular polarizing filter for my landscape images.
Greatly cropped, at ISO 1000, at f/16

I was trying to decide between this lens and the 24-70. As much as I would really love to have the 24-70, I cannot justify triple the price right now. (I'll gladly take donations. ;) ) This lens actually reviews very well so I went with it. I am not disappointed!
This lens performs very well in all the categories that modern software cannot fix. Lens design is a compromise and I'm glad to see they are designing smartly. Mainly, this thing is sharp! While not a macro lens, it has stood in in a pinch.
The VR works! Getting great handhold speeds. I even took it into some of the darker rooms to shoot at the museum I work for.
This lens along with my 70-300VR makes a great two lens set-up.

Great all-around lens to keep on your camera. Covers enough range for about 85% of your general shots. Sharpest around 24-70mm but still very sharp at the upper and lower limits.

Like many before, my choice for an upgrade from a kit lens. I am very impressed with the quality of build and constant ouput of very sharp clear images. I wish it were a bit faster at the long end, but for its bang I feel it is definitely worth the buck.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
I bought this lens to replace the 18-55 VR kit lens that I had from another camera. Its not only a little better, its way better, and the lens it replaced wasn't bad.
First, its much better built. Very solid construction that inspires confidence in use. One isn't afraid that this lens can't take a little beating. As a result, its also significantly heavier, but also a great walking around lens -- just about the right combination of wide to short telephoto (equivalent to 24-127.5 on DX format).
Second, It has VRII and the silent wave motor. It focuses almost instantaneously. The focus ring seems to focus in less than one-half of one turn from close up to infinity. Its fast in this regard. The VR allows one to shoot at least 3 stops slower and IT WORKS.
This is not a "fast" lens, but it also doesn't come with a "fast" lens price tag. It does, however, come with "fast" lens IQ - virtually across the board. Again, this lens is very sharp.
You wouldn't think that those 2 extra MM at the wide end would make a difference, but they do. Coupled with an 80-400 zoom, this two lens combo is almost perfect.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
Have you looked to see how many really sharp lenses in this range have Nikon's VR? The lens is a bargain! Check other lens review sites to see how it compares with other lenses in its range. It comes out on top - a shining star!
I have used this lens for a couple weeks and I am very surprised how sharp, contrasty, and how well the focal range works for almost everything. Is is the lens that is on my camera most of the time. Not a "fast" lens? Sure - at f3.5 to f/5.6 is isn't. But it doesn't weigh a ton either.
You can buy a cheaper lens, but you won't be happy. As soon as you start examining the pictures with this lens, you will be sold.
I also need to add that the VR is indispensable, especially after three cups of coffee!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
This is the lens I wanted (before it was made). But I already had the Nikon 18-200 VR, so was not going to add it to my arsenal for 2mm more on the wide end. Then disaster struck: while changing lenses on my D300, I dropped the 18-200. Bent barrel, cracked front element - useless in an instant. Concrete is very unforgiving. So, bought the 16-85 through Adorama and I'm a happy camper. No lens creep and sharp! Can not say enough good things about Adorama service. They're great.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
it is quite surprising sharp lens overall compared to a good lens of 17-55mm/f2.8, beyond my expectation. I was curious about its market/price position in the lineup of Nikon lens. After taking test, i feel it will beat 17-55mm in the most situation if you have other lens to cover low light situation such as cheap 50/1.8. VR supposed to give 4 stop advantage but i dont know how Nikon calculate. Sometimes i feel it is helpful and sometimes i dont. I may need take more test. I really acount on this VR II to get into night photography such as for building. It is only 2mm wide than 18-135mm, but charge almost than double than 18-135mm. it is some improvement over 18-55 VR, but the price [$]. there is clear margin for Nikon to make money from it. I guess Nikon really feel good about it. When zoom out, the lens shape doest look like as decent as 17-55. Zoom is smooth but feel a little bit tough. At Wide open, I observe some distortion but acceptable for the price you paid.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 16mm - 85mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX ED (VR) Vibration Reduction Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - U.S.A. Warranty:
Very nice lens. A step up from the 18-70 ED DX. The VR works well. The lens is as sharp at f5.6 at 85 mm as it is at f8 by my preliminary tests. Slightly longer and heavier than the 18-70, and gets even longer when zoomed to 85mm. Very tight, solid zoom ring with a nice sturdy feel to it. Absolutely no lens creep. AF-S focusing is a dream on the D300. If you don't mind the slower speed, this is a great walk around lens. Overpriced for what you get, but so is the 70-300 VR. Also, you absolutely have to use the lens hood outdoors.
