Comments about Nikon Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF-S Zoom-Nikkor Lens with Hood & Lens Case - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

This lens is an absolute must for the photographer that feels most comfortable shooting mainly in the wide to normal range. FX or DX users will love this lens on either camera format.(26mm thru 53mm for DX) It's the widest FX lens Nikon makes that will take filters (77mm), sorry 14mm-24mm fans, sometimes older is better just for the sake of a few millimeters. This is a f2.8 "D" lens so it will work on all Nikon film camera's as well as many other camera makes w/adapter. "Nikon's BEST while keeping it simple".

Comments about Nikon Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF-S Zoom-Nikkor Lens with Hood & Lens Case - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

This has been a very good lens so far. I was a bit worried about rumors of issues with the zoom and autofocus - haven't had any issues yet. Very good sharpness and contrast.

The lens distortion at the wider focal lengths is annoying. It's nowhere near as sharp as my Nikkor AFS 14-24mm f/2.8G, but nothing on planet Earth is. I think this first-generation AFS seems not nearly as accurate as newer AFS motors, but when it's on, it's on.

This is the best wide angle lens I've owned. I have a 24mm Nikkor which wasn't wide enough for what I wanted to do. I was torn between this lens and the Nikon 14mm and I think I made the best choice.
The lens is sharp and fast. It's not as heavy as I thought it would be but it makes itself known when your walking around shooting.
I'm using the lens on a Nikon D700 and the images are spectacular.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF-S Zoom-Nikkor Lens with Hood & Lens Case - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

A great practical lens. The manually adjustable aperture ring lets you use it with pre CPU Nikon film cameras as well as any new Nikon DSLR. This lens is well built and yields sharp images from 17 to 35mm. Uses 77mm standard screw on filters so that gives you flexibility. I wish it had a wider zoom. This lens is a workhorse. I purchased a 14-24mm lens which I tend to use more for the wider angle images but this lens has a little more reach and is the better choice for certain applications where that is necessary.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF-S Zoom-Nikkor Lens with Hood & Lens Case - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

This big lens is perfect for those trips that are all about photography. On my full frame FX camera it covers all my wide angle needs, from the slightly fishbowl to nearly normal perspective. Near focus is within 5 inches of the subject allowing me to fill the frame with a single rose. The only drawbacks are size and cost. I loved my old 28mm AI lens and might still use it instead when I expect to spend more time carrying the camera than actually shooting pictures. Photographers that are on a budget or are not comfortable with a bulky camera may wish to look at other options.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF-S Zoom-Nikkor Lens with Hood & Lens Case - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

Most of my best shots have been taken with this lens. It is sharp at any aperture or focal length. It is expensive and heavy, although I prefer a heavy lens because you know you are getting quality material. It is a lot of glass and metal, and the great thing is that if you get mugged for carrying expensive gear into a rough neighborhood, just whack them in the head with this lens and they won't get back up.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF-S Zoom-Nikkor Lens with Hood & Lens Case - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

I'm delighted with this lens. I'd been holding out because of the price but got asked to shoot a boxing tournament at the local gym and so used the fight as an excuse to make the buy.

Put it on my D40x, took it into the tough lighting conditions at a boxing match and came out a hero. Everyone else had point and shoots and got nothing. I've probably burned 20 disks already.

Fights are quick and they're dark. During test shots I took the week prior I found that when the fighters hit the ropes right above me, my 50mm (f1.4) was too much - all I could get was a shoulder or half a head.

But a twist of the ring with this lens and the shot is perfectly framed and at f2.8 is fast enough to get the job done. Solid, sharp, quick.

The price was breathtaking for me (it's why I only have a D40x) but I read somewhere to invest in glass not cameras. I'm glad I did. I'll get the D700 (or whatever comes after it) someday, but until then this lens won't come off my camera (until the kid's soccer season starts).

This is my second 17-35mm f.28. I sold the first when I went to DX digital from an F100. Bought a 12-24 f4 thinking it would be a suitable replacement - I was wrong. Ive sold and published more images from this lens than all my other glass COMBINED. Bought a new one in the same order with my D700 (and my return to full frame FX). I'll never look back. I had forgotten how incredible this lens was, and there is no better glass for WA freaks who need to occasionally stretch a bit longer for photojournalism and landscapes.

I have recently been investing in the higher quality Nikon glass, like this lens. With my D700, this lens is spectacular. Combined with the high ISO / low-noise of the D700, I have been able to shoot in available lighting conditions that would previously have eluded me, or required a flash. Since I have switched to mostly f/2.8 glass, I have actually sold my flash units! This lens is sharp, with fantastic bokeh, fast AF and no creep.

No problems with this lens at all, and well worth EVERY cent to buy it! I have two more lenses I want, and those are merely to augment this amazing lens!

I debated for a long time on which wide zoom to get with my D200. I bought three (12-24, 18-55DX and this one). This is the only one I still own. It is on my camera all of the time. It gets replaced for specific events with other lenses but this is my fallback lens. BTW, my wife hates it so opinions vary!

It is heavy but super fast focusing. It covers moderately wide to normal ranges - I do not miss the 35-70 range that is essentially missing from my bag (exception being the 50 f1.4). I really don't see why anyone would spend almost as much on the 18-55DX - this is better built, faster focusing, just as sharp with less distorsion and more saturation in colors.

A great lens if you can afford it. I couldn't afford not to have it.

First of all, I am not a pro; I am an advanced and enthusiastic amateur. This lens was purchased to fill the gap of a moderate zoom wide angle for a Nikon F100. (I am still one of the holdouts on film, although I'm sure there is a D200 in my future). The lens is superb, offering excellent corner to corner sharpness and does exactly what I expected it to do. It also is very useful in available light photography due to its f2.8 rating. The only downside (if there is one) is that it is heavy, but I consider that a minor nusisance.

It has slowly become my lens of choice for most all situations, it has never failed in providing clean, crisp results. As with digital 1.5 factors there are still times most any lens does not provide the needed range or perspective, but I find this lens suits me just fine for so many street and walking around situations, being able to capture the entire scene and still able to get a normal close up shot when needed. Quality build is there, and fast steady focus operation is a daily event. Overall it delivers all that it promises as Nikkor lenses tend to do. I can trust my work to this lens, that says it all.
