Comments about Nikon Nikon 17mm - 55mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras - Refurbished bu Nikon U.S.A.:

This lens is excellent. I originally purchased it to use for a few weddings that I shot in the summer, but it quickly became a staple in my photographic kit. This lens stays on my D300 almost all of the time and I can always rely on it to produce the results that I need. I have used it for a variety of projects, and I would have to say that the majority of my work that has been published (online or print) has been with this lens. The lens worked great for product photos (pizza ovens), weddings, and even a photo that was published on Thrasher Skateboard Magazine's website. It really is super versatile and if you want a mid range zoom for DX, this is it. The only downfall is that it is a little large with the hood attached. Without the hood, it isn't bad at all.

I don't like how the end of the barrel moves in and out when zooming. I do like the picture, dust seal and rugged construction. I have droped this lens twice with no damage. This lens is heavy, 26.6 oz. if that bothers you. For the casual user the 18-55 3.5-5.6 vr might be a better choice. If you want something pro grade and bulletproof this is the lens.

This is a pro-grade lens that does what the 24-70 f2.8 Nikkor does, but at a DX price. A little on the heavy side, but worth the effort. If you're shooting weddings or portraits with a DX body, this is the lens you need.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 17mm - 55mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras - Refurbished bu Nikon U.S.A.:

I generally keep this lens on my camera all the time as it is my first choice to use when I begin a photoshoot. My favorite lens before this one was the Nikon 50mm 1.4, but that lens doesn't zoom, plus I found myself having to change lenses when I needed to capture a wider angle. This lens is a great all-purpose lens because it zooms, it's fast, it's very crisp (especially in natural light), it maintains constant aperture throughout and it's wide angle. If you can spend the money, you can't go wrong. You may even consider getting a used or refurbished lens to save some money. I purchased a refurbished one and it's worked perfect so far.

Excellent lens for the pro or amateur. Great on Nikon DX camera bodies with cropped sensor. 17-55 on cropped sensor gives you roughly 25-82 on full frame. Great walk around lens, for portraits and landscapes.

I bought this for my D300s to pair with my D3s + 70-200 f/2.8 Nikkor for weddings.

This is a pro lens for DX format cameras and is an excellent lens for indoor and outdoor wedding shots where DOF is an important factor.

Not light weight or small, by any means, but on a D300s, it balances nicely.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 17mm - 55mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLR Cameras - Refurbished bu Nikon U.S.A.:

The 17-55mm was one of the go-to lenses back in the day for the full-framers. I have a cropped sensor, so this one reaches from slightly wide to portrait. It has the all-important 2.8 opening for low light or just fast focusing. But it's heavy. If you carry your luggage on flights, this will make the suitcase noticeably heavier...a lot heavier.
