Comments about Nikon Nikon 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:
This is a really great lens and does exactly what i was hoping for in minimizing the amount of glass I need to carry around. Excellent for traveling when I don't know what kind of shooting opportunities to expect. I'm relatively new to photography, and having one versitle lens on the camera makes my wife happy. I do like to switch to my 35mm F/1.8 for indoor or low lighting conditions, or for more bokeh. Of course, if there was an affordable constant aperture f/1.8 version of this lens, I wouldn't ever use another lens.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:
I have 5 lenses: 2 Tamrons, a Sigma, and 2 Nikkors... All zooms. The only one with lens creep is my older Nikkor, and it is really annoying. From other reviews I have read, this lens is susceptible as well. So far, so good. Thus far, the images are sharp. If the lens doesn't start creeping on me, I have a feeling this will become my most versatile and favorite lens.

Great lens! One that can stay on the camera is one doesn't want to keep changing lens. It is an all around great lens for all types of pictures.

Great Lens. This is a lens that you can put on your camera and go on a two week vacation and not switch out lens. You can capture a ton with just this lens. Consider purchasing if you don't want to carry around a ton of lens on your next trip!

This is a great all-around lens for the amateur photographer. You really don't have to think too much- just zoom, autofocus and click. The only lens I will use 99 percent of the time.

It's a good versatile lens, I am still learning the various uses, so far no complainants.
It's a little pricy but I would do it again.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:
I brought this lens with me on a trip to Boston, NY and DC (on a D90) and it was fun because of its versatility: with VR and its zoom range you can shoot virtually anything hand held. That makes it a great walk around lens. Plus, the red label on it looks great.
Unfortunately, given its aperture and range, the IQ is not something that I have expected (maybe I set my expectation a little bit too high...). 200 is usable only with good light condition. And within 18-70 it is no more "professional" than my cheaper 18-70 which I sold to a friend. Neither is it comparable to primes (35 2D or 50 1.4D) unless you shoot very carefully. To make the matter worse, the auto focus is a bit slow, which makes you missing shots on people.
But overall, the trade off is understandable.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:
John Wockenfuss was a utility player for the Detroit Tigers baseball team when I was a kid. He could play just about any position--first, third, catcher, outfield, you name it. Even though he spent most of his career as a backup player, Tigers fans loved Fuss, maybe because he personified the blue-collar everyman ethic of the Motor City. Plus he had the weirdest batting stance I've ever seen.
The Nikkor 18-200mm is much the same. It can do a little of everything. It goes from fairly wide all the way to pretty long telephoto. It's well-built (much better than most Nikon kit lenses), and very compact considering its focal range. The VR feature really works well; I'm not sure if I truly get four stops of improvement like the brochure says, but I definitely get shots with it that would be impossible on a non-VR lens without a tripod.
This lens even works pretty well for close-up photography since it focuses down to 18 inches or so. I've tried it with the Nikon 5T/6T close-up filters and it makes for a decent, lightweight, and compact macro setup if you don't have a dedicated macro lens.
I have owned numerous lenses over the years, and several do one thing or another better than this one. The 18-200mm won't give you portrait-quality depth of field the same way a fast prime lens will. The 70-300mm VR has more reach for sports and wildlife. The 70-200mm VR is faster and sharper. The 18-200mm also has considerably higher distortion than many other lenses (I know it can be corrected with software, but I prefer to get the image right the first time without having to do a lot of processing.) My lens has the same zoom-creep issue that many have complained about.
After all of that, though, I still really love this lens simply because it's so convenient. You'll never have to worry about fumbling with lens swaps when the action is fast and furious. You won't need a second lens to lug along if you're backpacking or are otherwise concerned about weight. It's just a very good general-purpose lens that will perform anything you ask of it with competence, if not world-class performance. A Fuss without fuss, if you will.
Like any photographer, I value particular lenses for their unique qualities--bokeh, sharpness, extreme telephoto reach, etc. The uniqueness of the 18-200mm lies in its extreme utility. Purists might deride its inherent optical compromises, but the vast majority of people will simply put it on their camera, never take it off, and take wonderful pictures.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:
I bought this to travel with however I had to return it due to the weight. It's a balance when you travel - you don't want your equipment to over ride your spontaneity. I went back to my 55-200 and while I lost some shots, or had to back up a lot(!) I was happier over all.
Bottom line - It's a great lens but a very personal choice.

What a creep! and I mean creep.
This 18-200 used one is telescoping all the way when you point the camera down. I have to send it back.

I am no expert by any means, but this lens really makes photography more fun. Its 72mm objective gathers light extremely well, is zooms in well enough for taking photos from top stadium levels, and is crisp & sharp. Nice, wide angle and detailed macro shots are handled well too. VR works invisibly so far. Perfect for general use!

This lens is great with my D90. To make it totally compresensive it could be faster, but hey, I'm asking too much because there aren't any lens out there faster than this with this kind of zoom range and in this price range. If convenience and quality are what you are looking for shop no further.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:
I have had great experiences with refurbished Nikon products through Adorama. I bought this lens to shoot urban landscapes at night. My subjects are stationary, and therefore, I can substitute VR for a larger aperture.
I've read people's complaints on other sites about image quality. I think the image quality is excellent! Nat Geo isn't paying for my pics, so I have no need to spend $3000 on a lens. I think the complaints about IQ are pixel peepers. So far, I've only enlarged to 8x10, but they are tack sharp.
Lens creep is the only thing that kept me from rating this lens a 5. I only notice creep if I keep the lens at 180 degrees for a length of time. I expect it to get worse over time, but I think most zoom lenses will creep over time, so I accept it.

This lens is build very well, and is super sharp, the VR works. I use it for general use and also for landscapes. Even in low light conditions at sunset, I can handhold and still get clear, sharp image. Only wish is that they would make the same with a f.2.8

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:
It does what is most important.. delivers a sharp, rich image to the sensor..smoothly, quickly and quietly.
Its also a tremendous convenience. I hate to have my wife nag me as I stop to change lenses while on a trip and I hate to miss shots because, for example, while focusing on a distant whale with a telephoto, another one comes right up next the the boat calling for a wide angle. Plus you don't have to worry about dropping one lens while fiddling with another or getting dust on the sensor as you change lenses.
It also works somewhat as a macro focusing within about eight inches of a subject.
The Vibration Reduction is great. It wont take the place of a tripod during long exposures but it does make a significant difference when there isn't time to set one up and you want lots of magnification.
And finally I should mention that this lens is actually surprisingly small and light. Its under four inches long when contracted and a bit over 6 when extended.
I am glad I bought it.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:
Prior to this I've been using the kit 8-135 DX lens. I wasn't sure if it was worth it to upgrade to the 18-200 VR, but I finally did it.
No regrets at all! Pictures are sharper, my hand held photos look better. In the last 2 months, I've traveled from the USA to Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand and brought my D200 with this lens. I had a 50mm prime and a 70-300mm with me as well, but never felt like I needed to change the lens.
If you're looking for one general purpose lens to cover many situations, this is a great choice.
Note: I've heard of the lens creep issue but mine seems tight even when pointing straight down it hasn't been a problem.

Great lens, even for the money...not enough zoom for most wildlife (11.1x equivalent) but good enough for everything else. Shot a marathon last week and nearly every shot was sharp, including the ones taken from a moving vehicle. Focus is fast enough for runners, etc.
Great detail!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18mm - 200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:
I got this lens to minimize changing lenses because my D200 didn't have self-cleaning sensor and cleaning it was a frequent, risky (self) or expensive (shop) hassle. I now have the world's most expensive point-and-shoot. (Time for a D300!).
I use it for just about everything - events, sports, documentation, portraits, scenics - although I need a macro for close-ups and a bigger telephoto for sports and wildlife. It's every bit as sharp as I need, even for enlargements to 36". The vibration reduction was a bonus, and it is astonishing; at 1/10 or 1/8, about 1 shot of 4 will be tack-sharp.
Occasionally it fights to focus, but I focus on clouds a lot. It's probably due as much to the camera as the lens.
The only real drawback is the lens creep; I can't believe Nikon rates it acceptable. When I'm photographing artwork on the floor, I have to literally grip the lens while shooting, which totally defeats the purpose of remote-shooting it on a tripod. If Nikon can't make it stiff enough to stay put, they should add a lock-in-place like my friend's $250 knock-off 18-200 lens has.
