Sharp, light lens to walk around with for less than $100! You don't even need to think about it, just get one. You really don't need any other lens at all.

The lens is great for the money. I would pay more if it were faster and
had a metal mount. I use this lens for landscape, and indoors with large
groups of people.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18mm - 55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I've only had this lens for a week or so (it is a replacement for a Tamron 28-80 lens that broke) and I find that if I'm just hopping into the car to run errands that this is the lens I attach to my Nikon d300, it's become my "go to" lens. I used to take my 60mm macro for the same purpose but this as so many more possiblities, because of it's wide angle capabilities, living in the mountains most of my viwes are vistas. I love the fact that it is light weight, small and unobtrusive which makes it wonderful for taking photos of people. It's focus is fast and accurate which makes it ideal for photographing while at a red light. I really wish that it had a metal mount instead of plastic but if I'm careful when I put it on and take it off the camera I should have many years of fun with this little beauty. P.S. my daughter just bought the lens and loves it as much as I.

It's a great kit lens. Gives you a good, all around lens to start out with until you upgrade. The nice wide angle is great for landscapes and you certainly can't go wrong with this as your first lens (Also not bad at close-ups).

And don't worry about the refurb. My whole kit is refurb and they're all like brand new.

This lens was my first lens for a DSLR since I just got a nice clean Fuji S2 Pro for my job as a Traffic Crash Reconstructionist . This lens is very sharp and focus is great under most lighting conditions. I can blow the photos up on my computer and the quality is unbelievably sharp. This lens does macro very well and is not that hard to focus manually. I have no problems with it being a re-furbished lens since it works great and looks 100% new. This lens has saved me $$$$ since it can do all I need at a great price!!!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 18mm - 55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Wide Angle Autofocus Zoom Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

This lens was apparently designed for auto focus, then they gave you a ring because it was easy. The slightest rotation will mess up your focus enough that you're getting far less than the resolution the camera is good for. Simply letting go of the lens is an art, lest a remaining finger impart a faint rotation and ruin the shot. Friction is very slight. Since the camera doesn't have the old-style optical aids, you need all the help you can get to focus, and that is something you are emphatically not going to get from this lens (even though Nikon admits that certain subjects will keep autofocus from working). I would have preferred that they hook the autofocus motor up to the joystick button for coarse and the command dial for fine, since that would have had no incremental cost. It would also let you bracket focus! (People who want to talk about focus should blow shots up 800% on a computer.)

No regrets about refurb; my whole setup is refurb.

I went ahead and did an unscheduled drop of this lense. Be very careful and try not to drop this lense, but other then that the lense is awesome. I use it mostly for landscapes and casual use. Trust me when I say this, refurbashed doesn't mean a piece of garbage that got fixed. Cause this lense works like a champ.
