As stated by other reviewers this lens is a great all around lens. I does everything i ask of it and then some. It makes excellent portraits in a studio setting, great for outdoors portraits, and everything else. The only exception for me is low light , I found a flash to be required but that is no big deal for me. Over all this lense has been amazing! I traded in my 18-200 vr and dont regret it one bit. You will not be disappointed with this lense

The 24-120 f4 VR is really an exceptional lens. AF is consistently fast and reliable and the image quality is very good. There is some distortion but it is easily corrected. Although the lens is versatile enough for portraits, action, low light, etc, this lens shouldn't be your primary lens for those types of photography. The strength of this lens is that it can handle so many different types of photography.

I traded all of my equipment in on a D700 and the 24-120 f4 VR. I need nothing else. This is a great walk around combo and I can shoot anything and go anywhere with it. Now if Nikon would make a 120-300 f4 VR I would be in heaven

I photographed a wedding with this lens last weekend. All of my formals were hand held and came out tack sharp. In the past I would have had to use a tripod to get the same results. Bokeh is nice at the longer focal lengths for impromptu portraits. For the first dance, 24mm gives you a nice wide angle view of the couple and the whole room, 40-60mm gives a nice full length close-up and 100-120mm gives nice close up head and shoulders shots. As far as low light shooting - f/4 on my D700 is a fast lens and low light was not a problem. This lens will be a main part of my wedding gear bag for a long time to come.

I have own its early 3.5 - 5.6 version for over 10 years and have been longing for a f4 when the full framers came out. The first thing I noticed was that the VRII was very very silent and fast, compared to VR. I barely noticed it's actually working. The bokeh is more pleasing. I never used the early version for professional job but this new f4 version carries 80% of workload.

This lens is fantastic. I have compared it to my 24-70 f/2.8 lens at 35 and 70mm and to my 70-200 f/2.8 lens at 105mm and I can't see any difference in sharpness. For photographing event photography, this lens actually gives you up to one stop faster than the 24-70 lens. You lose 1 stop going from f/2.8 to f/4 but gain up to 2 stops by going from minimum 1/60 sec shutter speed on the 24-70 lens down to as low as 1/15 sec on the 24-120 lens. I have gotten sharp hand held pictures at 120mm with this lens with the shutter as low as 1/15 sec. Nikon really got this lens right this time
