Yes, it's heavy, but that's to be expected. Tack sharp. Works great for family portraits and landscapes. Low light performance is phenomenal. Quick focus.

This lens sits on my D700 all of the time. It is so sharp it is scary sometimes.

The perfect focal length for any type of event or wedding photography. Pro build and quality. VR would be a nice add though....I'm slowly replacing my older lens set, for now it's the 17-35, 80-200, and this lens..during events I shoot at least 75% with the 24-70...good investment for any serious Nikon shooter (Canon makes the same thing and it's just as popular for all the same reasons)

I brought a refurbished 28-70 lens to upgrade/replace my a 7 year old 28-70 Sigma. I wasn't disappointed at all. I did have reservations on buying a refurbished lens[...] But once I hands it in my hands & I was using it, I knew I'd done alright. [...]I primarily shoot Wedding, Events, Portraits & a bit of fashion & is as my everyday walkabout lens. The images from it are nice & sharp, it's Auto focusing is fast & responsive. It was a little heavier than my old Sigma but felt balanced & well built. It's a very nice all round lens & I'd recommend it.

I'm not a professional photographer, however I know what I like and I like the best, but like most times, the best comes at a price. This lens is no exception. I was thinking to myself, do I really need something that is [$] for a mid range zoom? I have a 50mm and there are definitely cheaper alternatives out there for 1/3 the price. I went with my gut and the reviews and I couldn't be happier. The lens is a tank. It's rugged, strong, sturdy, and can take great photos. This lens is paired with my D700 which I think it belongs on. I've had this lens for about a month now and it's nothing short of fantastic. It's sharp where I need it to be sharp, and the bokeh is great where it needs to be great. It's fast and paired with the D700 is accurate in focusing. This lens is heavy, there is no getting around it, especially with the D700 and battery grip. One had shooting especially vertical can be a challenge if your in that situation, but other than that, I strong enough to handle the rest. The reason I bought this lens is that I look at it as an investment to my hobby and my love of photography. People who love something usually buy the best products, ones that make them happy, and ones that they know will last and continue to perform through the paces. I bought Nikon because I know this lens with last. I still have my D100 from 7 years ago. It still is shooting great. I trust my D700 and 24-70 will last just as long if not longer. If it last for 10 years, I think it's worth [$] a year. Nobody will be disappointed in this lens. If you have the $$ then go for it, if not then save up. It's a true benchmark lens that will keep you impressed every image you take.
