Both lenses are tough, easy to use & focus, not too long when extended, good sharp pix, especially with AF on, and not heavy or bulky. Love em both. Don't have to change lenses too often when shooting sports.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR II (Vibration Reduction) Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Nikkor Lens - USA Warranty:

I bought this for use on a D300 and it replaced my 18-200 and 70-300. I'm glad I did it. I tend to photograph "stuff" and this lends gives me a lot of versatility. 90% of the time, I shoot outdoors.

I find the lens to be sharp throughout the focal range.

Autofocus can sometimes hunt but the Nikon focusing system lets you get close manually...after that, I found auto-focus to be very fast.

The only real drawback is that it is heavy and by that I mean heavier than the lenses it replaced. It's really not that big a deal.

I like the versatility of this lens and it's usually the first one I grab when I go out photo-walking.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR II (Vibration Reduction) Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Nikkor Lens - USA Warranty:

We are planning a trip to China, and will be on and off buses, in and out of hotels, on planes, etc. We MUST travel light, and I find ease for packing and moving makes this the lens of choice for our trip. I have a 70-200 which is a superior lens, but it is heavy, and I would have to take 2 lenses to accomplish what this one lens will bring me. I want to enjoy the trip.....not just take pictures...so the timing of this being released was perfect.

If I were going somewhere to take pictures that I was going to sell, or if I were going on an organized photo "safari", I would take the 24-70 and 70-200...no question; however, to capture memories, and enjoy the trip, this is a perfect solution

For not wanting to take several lenses with you on a trip, this is the ticket! Yes, I will admit that the quality is not up to a pro Nikon lens but it is very good and beter that my 24-120 lens for quality and construction. Will I use it for a paid wedding or other job, no but for an all around lens that will give you B+ results, it is worth it. There is a lock to prevent lens creep and from time to time if I forget to engage it, the lens may pull out a little taking it from my camera bag but a very minor issue. It is also reasonable short and can fit into most mid-sized camera bags. Some people complain it is a little heavy but when your use to toting around a D3s, it is a non issue. For the bang for your buck, you cannot go wrong. Buy it!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR II (Vibration Reduction) Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Nikkor Lens - USA Warranty:

I came to this lens on he recommendation of Ken Rockwell, and I haven't been disappointed. Vibration reduction allows hand-held shooting at surprisingly slow shutter speeds, even at 300mm. It's a little heavy for casual use, but not so heavy as to prevent that kind of use. It's on my camera (D700) almost exclusively. It even permits casual micro shooting!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR II (Vibration Reduction) Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Nikkor Lens - USA Warranty:

I read all the negative articles on the webb about how this lens is not great according to the stats from tech tests. I don't shoot boards with symbols on them. This is a great lens. I use it on my D7000. It serves up poping colors and clarity. Focuses very fast in all but dark situations. Built like a tank. Tele adjusting is very firm, no play in lens barrel when extended. Feels very solid in all aspects. I use all full frame lenses on the D7000 so I can utilize the "sweet spot" on my lenses. I am very pleased with the results this lens supplies.

Only con is weight. Built like a tank = heavy. Cost actually is moderate compared to today's pricepoints for OEM lenses. Still not cheap though.

All my other lenses are true pro lenses, but this one will occupy the D7000 most of the time.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR II (Vibration Reduction) Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Nikkor Lens - USA Warranty:

I owned a D80 with the 18-200 and just bought a D7000. I know this lens was designed for FX bodies, but once I tried it out, I noticed a considerable difference in my pictures compared to the 18-200. I did several comparison shots between the two lenses, and the 28-300 is much sharper. This lens is fantastic in good to average light, but as any 3.5-5.6 zoom it is average to below average in low light, but the awesome high iso capabilities of the D7000 really help make up for it. I use the 35mm 1.8 for low light any way, so despite giving up 10mm on the short end, which I rarely use, this lens is awesome for what it is. If you are looking for a great walk around lens for FX or DX, you won't be disappointed.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR II (Vibration Reduction) Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Nikkor Lens - USA Warranty:

I use this lens mainly on a Nikon D3 and D700 and it has become my favorite lens for those cameras. Sometimes I use it on a Nikon D300S and D300 for extra focal range. This lens is Very Sharp. Great travel lens. My advice: Buy one now! You won't be disappionted. Seems as sharp or sharper than the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 lens I own. The Nikon 28-300mm lens is not a low light action lens but it does everything else well. Great color! Outdoors in the daylight it's fantastic. Does portraits very well. I cut down my lens bag for travel to 3 lenses, this lens, a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 and a Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8. Focus on the Nikon 28-300mm lens is slow but accurate and very sharp. Great color. Nikon really put a winning combination of sharpness, focal range and excellent build quality together in the Nikon 28-300mm lens. If had had to choose only one FX lens, this would be it. Its worth every penny!

I used this lens on a D300 and D300s. Situations where there IS enough light this is a great lens. Situations where light is an issue then this wouldn't be a lens of choice. Indoor no flash unsatisfactory results. Outdoor, daylight this lens is great. Overall, if someone wanted a "one size fits all" lens, this would be a good choice if 3.5-5.6 wasn't an issue.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR II (Vibration Reduction) Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Nikkor Lens - USA Warranty:

I wanted a small/light-weight Nikkor full-frame lens that I could use on my full-frame Nikon Bodies, pretty much the same way I use my Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens on my Nikon DX (Crop Sensor) Bodies; and, with this 28-300mm VR lens, Nikon has now provided me with such a lens. This lens, and one of my small/fast light-weight Nikkor prime lenses (for low light shooting), is all I need for most of my traveling, walk-around and general-purpose shooting ---especially, when I need/want to travel "light" and as inconspicuously as possible, without sacrificing local length reach and flexibility. There's sometimes considerable distortion when shooting vertical structures/objects; but, it's easily corrected in just about any editing software, and I don't select this type of lens as a dedicated lens for "architectural" type shooting, in the first place, as typically that's not one of it's designed or intended benefits.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR II (Vibration Reduction) Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Nikkor Lens - USA Warranty:

This lens is fantastic. Nikon really got this right. I compared it to my 24-70 2.8 lens at 35mm and 70mm and to my 70-200 2.8 lens at 105mm and 200mm and can't tell any difference in sharpness. This lens is a fantastic utility lens for just about anything - especially if you want to carry only one lens. Yes, wide open the lens only opens up to 3.5 to 5.6 - but with today's cameras at ISO 3200 to 6400 f/5.6 is getting pretty fast. The only con I saw is the lens does have a little more weight to it than most normal zooms, but it is not bad.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR II (Vibration Reduction) Wide Angle Telephoto Zoom Nikkor Lens - USA Warranty:

Nikon designed and built a really nice lens. It works exceptionally well on a D700, giving sharp, contrasty photos at virtually every focal length. It's the perfect walking around lens.

For some it might be a tad slow for night photography, or sports, because of the 5.6 at 300mm. But for landscapes, and even Macro, the lens works well. It's also a nice portrait option, when you shoot at 200-300mm you get nice sharp portraits, with wonderful bokeh.

The lens isn't perfect. There is some distorion through the range, but It can easily be corrected in PS. Don't get me wrong, it's not that bad. It's also much less noticable when stopped down to f/8.

I also like this lens on a DX sensor. Of course at 28mm your photo is cropped as if it were approx. 42mm. So you would need a nice Wide angle zoom if you were going to do a lot of wide shooting.

I gave this lens 5 stars because it does everything it's designed to do, really well. Zooms are never as good as primes. that's the nature of the "beast". But this lens will take some great photos, much better than the 18-200mm, in a useful focal range. Even if you have a DX body, this is a great lens, and if you get a fx body - you don't have to buy another "street Sweeper" - Nice job Nikon

This is a fantastic lens for travel. I have this on my D700, and my fisheye and 50mm are in my bag. We travel a lot, and getting in and out of buses, hotels, etc, can make carrying all the lenses you might want for the day more of a chore and take away some of the joy of photographing your trip. Lens takes great pictures in good light, and "ok" in low light.

A bit heavy, but not as heavy as carrying two or more lenses to cover the range this lens provides.

Sooo glad I bought it.
