Comments about Nikon Nikon 35mm f/2D AF Wide Angle Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:
It's sharper than the 35mm f/1.4 AIS from f/2 to f/4, but after that the fast manual focus version is sharper. It's nowhere near as sharp or as nice as the Zeiss 35mm f/2.0 ZF.2, not even close. It's low cost, light weight, and autofocus keep it in the game, but its image quality is far from the best.
Comments about Nikon Nikon 35mm f/2D AF Wide Angle Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:
Very happy with this purchase. Pin sharp and very light, it has been on my D90 since I bought it. I have the Sigma 30mm f1.4 but it is a little too heavy to have on the camera all the time. I like the Sigma too, but I love the Nikon 35mm f2. Plus it is not a "G" series lens so it can be used with extension bellows or tubes for macro work. Great little lens.

I have been shooting around town these days and I really enjoy the light weight, sharpness and view angle when mounted on D200. It makes easy work of abstract fine art. I would recommend this lens to photographers who like getting close to the subjects.

I bought this with a D90 body to build my own more desirable kit, and am very happy with the results. I am transitioning over to Nikon for film and just getting into DSLRs, so this lens was a perfect match for both of those paths.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 35mm f/2D AF Wide Angle Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:
I am a hobby photographer that cannot justify buying expensive pro zooms. I mainly photograph friends and family and found the need to have a faster lens. I struggled with the decision between the 35mm and the 50mm Nikkor primes. First I tried the 50mm 1:1.8 because it was so cheap. I really liked that lens but the focal length just did not work for me. At close to $300 I was not sure if the 35mm lens was worth it. I talked myself into it, and I am glad I did. On the dx format this lens is so much more useful then the 50 mm, it is worth the money. I rarely take it off my camera. I have the D40 so I have to manually focus. The 50mm is OK to manually focus but this lens is noticeably easier. I also like how compact the prime lenses are, they make it possible for me to carry a DSLR places that I would have in the past only taken a point and shoot camera. I know very little about shooting test patterns and the technical terms associated with lenses. What I can tell you is this lens takes pictures that look great when used with a d40.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 35mm f/2D AF Wide Angle Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:
The image quality at f/2 is not great but quickly improves just stopped down to f/2.2. From f/2.5 on it gives excellent results. Flare and ghosting are low! Attaching a front protective filter would give some mirrored images in strong backlit conditions, so, in such situations it is better not to use any. On my D300 I found I had to set AF Fine tune from +5 to +10 to get precise on target focus. It is an excellent general purpose lens at least for the DX format. This lens deserves 5 stars for what it is considering its price.

it's a pity everyone here look down at D40 owners and laugh of the 'cheapest' Nikon camera. I tell you what: for street photography, you can't find a better deal than small and lightweight 35mm f2D and the small and lightweight D40. if you truly are a photographer manual zoom should be down at the bottom of your 'list of worries'. trust me - it brings the best out of the camera, used for A3 black and white people photos. D40 is simply great only when used with this 35mm, not the kit lenses. and yes, I did test the 50mm 1.8 and yes, on the street, at work, 35mm is better in almost every way. this lens is a definitely must have!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 35mm f/2D AF Wide Angle Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:
A classic normal lens on my D300, this lens is tiny, fast, and really really sharp. Great for walking around, people photography, whatever you can think of. Image quality is incredible....
Might be a little pricey for its size, but the results are worth it.
Everybody should have one.

[...] For DX digital, this should be one of the first lenses you buy, period.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 35mm f/2D AF Wide Angle Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:
This is a great pro-optic with a consumer build. It's very sharp with no field relevant distortion. You can use it on your crop sensor camera or full frame.
Think about it. Purchase a 17-55 f2.8 DX or for a quarter the price, get this 35 f2. It's full frame capable, faster, as good or better glass, and you can zoom with your feet, two steps forward or two steps backward. It's a no-brainer. The only downside is that it's not an AFS lens so won't autofocus on a D40 or D60, but those people usually prefer a zoom and already have a kit in this range.
Oh and lenses don't cause digital noise; a most amusing concept.

This just became my favorite walking lens. A recent trip to NYC, I had this on my Fuji S5 Pro and that's all I needed. Fast f/2 is good for low light/night photography w/out a tripod. Plus, this lens doesn't scream "rob me" like my 12-24mm or 18-200mm VR do.
Pulls a double duty for me now: it's a normal lens on my DSLRs and it's a moderately-wide angle on my FE.
Just a fun lens to have in your bag and even more fun on your camera.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 35mm f/2D AF Wide Angle Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:
It's a wide-angle on a full frame but for the currently-popular 1.5 crop factor sensors, this is the venerable 50mm prime. I carry it around on my D80 a lot for a lightweight and capable package with good low-light performance. It won't autofocus on a D40. The main competition for this as my carryaround lens is the 50mm 1.8, which is so cheap everyone should have one, if just for portraits, but I like the 35mm (*1.5 of course) better.
Hopefully Nikon will upgrade their primes with ultrasonic motors so owners of the cheapest cameras can enjoy these little beauties.

Terrific prime lens for my D200, getting the sweet center (full size image circle) and no vignetting. Attach your Weitwinkel wide angle adapter and get 140+ degrees with super sharpness. Use a digital-ready uva to remove stray infra-red and prepare to be dazzled! Great lens!

was as i hoped xcept it was not made xpressly for digital format i.e. tho a 35mm focal legnth translates to something like a 55mm (not so wide angle as i would have liked)

Comments about Nikon Nikon 35mm f/2D AF Wide Angle Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:
Because of the magnification factor, this is a better prime lens for a DSLR than the 50mm many people bought for their film cameras. Very sharp, very fast focus, and the f/2 max aperture gives you a lot of leeway in terms of both available light photography and depth of field.
