Bought this as my first lens with my new Nikon when I switched brands. Not disappointed at all with the purchase. I read a lot of reviews before choosing and I am not disappointed.

I use this for shooting high school basketball when my 85mm f/1.8 lens is too much for space limitations.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 50mm f/1.4G AF-S Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

Having recently switched to Canon, I think about this lens like a friend I left behind. It was with me through a rambling series of body ownership (D40, D80, D200, D90) and it's performance consistently impressed me. It's quality far exceeds the money you'll spend on it; once you see the first image, you'll be absolutely hooked. Canon's 50mm f/1.4 is shockingly poor by comparison, and the f/1.2 is absurdly expensive. I now own what I consider the only competition, from a price and quality standpoint, the Sigma 50mm f/1.4. However, the Nikon AF-S still crushes the Sigma's AF ability. Buy it. Buy it now. Keep it on your camera for a month and really learn it. Spend that month eating PB&J for lunch if you're worried about the price.

I bought this as the first lens to go with my D700 since I switched brands. It was an affordable, high quality lens...something that is hard to find. Nice and sharp. Great in low light. Good walking around lens.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 50mm f/1.4G AF-S Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

This versatile, fast lens makes it possible to get great shots even in hand-held, low-light scenarios, and it's an excellent portrait or interior lens.

However, autofocus can be slow in low contrast situations, and soft at the widest apertures, leading to more than a couple missed shots in fast action environments.

Chromatic aberration and vignetting seems minimal. It's the most compact lens of any I own——great for travel.

Bottom line: this might not be the best action lens, but if you're looking for a versatile lens with nice bokeh for studio, portrait, architecture or low-light photography, and you understand the inherent limitations/freedom of a prime, you won't find a better one this side of $1000.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 50mm f/1.4G AF-S Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

For quite some time I couldn't decide if I wanted this lens or the 35mm 1.8 AF-S. I'm very glad I went with this one. With the longer focal length and wider aperture, I think the bokeh is way better. [...] I also bought the 7-year warranty with this lens. The main reasons I bought this lens are:1) Excellent low light capabilities2) Smooth and silky bokeh3) Superb for portraits and weddings.I rated it "5" here on Adorama. If it were more expensive, I would've rated it "4" b/c of the slower focusing (my 18-55mm lens, on average seems to hit the target more quickly than this one). All this is no problem for me b/c I never intended to use this for fast/sports shots. All in all, an awesome lens. It has become my dear child... :)

Comments about Nikon Nikon 50mm f/1.4G AF-S Auto Focus Nikkor Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.:

I purchased this lens based on the recommendation from a couple of friends. I shoot primarily scenic, nature but needed a lens that would perform better in low light situations. This lens does a wonderful job. Great DOF, beautiful bokeh and does a nice job in low light. A bit of a learning curve as it has no aperture ring but once you become accustomed to that, it's a great little lens, a keeper! It's been said it's not really recommended for landscapes but I have actually gotten some nice scenic shots out of it.
