this is a great lens perfect for pro looking pics for not such pros like me.Returned lens because never worked right and often just stopped focusing all together, [...] I ended up returning it and bought one from Nikon refurbished. [...] will not shop here again.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens - Grey Market:

I am relatively new to the photo hobby but have been told I have a "keen eye". With a short zoom, I was able to take pictures of oddities I found in everyday life, mostly inanimate objects placed in very random spots. As this grew, I tried to take pictures of people and animals. I found that it bored me to take posed shots and the subjects would often see me and strike some sort of pose.

I explained this to a friend, who is much more experienced than I. He took me to Adorama and helped me select the right lense for my ability and use, Adorama sales rep was equally helpful. We selected the 55mm-200mm Nikon with auto focus and stable control. I wanted to buy used or reconditioned, as I am quite clumsy and did not want to break the bank. We found one that would fit my camera and provide me with all the miss-haps the future would bring.

I was totally shocked at how great the photos have been coming out. I am now able to shoot subjects at a distance at parties, gatherings, events, etc. This enables me to capture the subject without a pose. New York City, where I live, offers an endless canvas to work with, this product certainly enables me to fill that canvas in with characters I meet.

The quality is magnificent. From my perspective, an amateur who needs a durable product, I could not recommend this more highly.

I must warn you however, this has fed my new addiction and caused quite an obsession!

Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens - Grey Market:

My lens failed while using it to photograph a blacksnake at my house. I took 5 pics and then it would not take another without the flash. The aperature does not open very far. The camera is a D80 and I took it to a local photoshop to verify it was the lens problem. I'm considering a off brand lens as I'm very disappointed in the reliability of the Nikon.
