This was a gift that came with a cleaning kit and a UV filter. We have only had it for just a few weeks and deffinetly put it trough it's paces. Considering everything that we got for the cost this has well exceeded our expectations. It is a nice upgarade from the stock 35-55mm lense we had. We are getting better shots of our kids without having to be right on top of them for the shot.

This lens is great and you can really get some great pictures using it. I used this lens while I was on a cruise recently and during training at work and the pictures were outstanding. The guys at work were very impressed with how the pictures came out. Another worker also has the same camera and couldn't be happier.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

Simply stated, nice bang for the buck.I'm your run of the mill hobbyist photographer, and carry this lens with me all the time. I really do use it for pretty much everything, other than shooting kids sports games and fast action events. The lens handles well and doesn't feel cheap, from what I've researched it's cheap because comparatively speaking, it's slower than its more expensive counterparts. I primarily use the lens for shooting wildlife, landscapes and portraits. It does all this just fineI don't really mind the slower focusing speed as I'm not your pro photographer, there are really only two things that iono keeps it from being a 5 I guess. The hood and focus ring. The focus ring I knew to be a funky feels as though it could have been raised about a millimeter or two. Also the hood doesn't really seat solidly on the lens. It does sit just fine and doesn't audibly rattle when on and it does do it's job really well, it just feels like it could have been made to fit more snugly. This is my first hood, so perhaps they're all made to really come off with minimal effort? I don't know. In the end for the price and quality of picture you can get with this, it's most definitely worth having, and I've suggested it to many of my friends. If you want to see what sort of pics can be taken with this lens do an af-s 55-200mm nikkor search on deviantart's webpage. In this case, the price is hardly indicative of the quality of pics you'll get. Purchase and enjoy![...]

great lens but in many cases it just eats light, if you don't have an external flash, a perfectly lighted gym will look light nightlife, its a constant battle between shutter speed and f stops, would be great if it had 2 more stops to work with, still great low cost lens, not to heavy, small, good zoomth. yes i said zoomth,

This lens came with the 18-55 lens and my D40 kit. Tried it out over a couple of hours and I like it. I especially like macro photography, so I've attached a couple of shots from this lens and my D40. I cropped these pix out of their larger originals, and they were shot with the lens in hand less than 48 hours. Been hearing so much about the VR lenses I was especially concerned about camera shake, but overall, handheld without a tripod and shortly after a fresh cup of strong coffee, it looks like this lens works just fine for me. For its price, range, and overall effects, I'd say it's a keeper.

I had concerns that the lens would not focus fast enough for shooting birds in flight. It was a pleasant surprise that it could focus that fast. The pictures taken at the full 200mm were sharp when enlarged on the computer screen. I also like the light weight for packing into remote areas.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

The lens is not that sharp, and manual focus is well nigh impossible because of the narrow and badly placed ring at the front. Autofocus is a bit slow. I would recommend that you spend more and get the 18-200 mm lens with image stabilization. This lens is not much more than a toy.

I've used this lens around home shooting pictures and on a couple of trips (Hawaii & Arkansas). This lens is lightweight and takes great pictures. My one complaint is that when you set the lens to autofocus, the focus ring locks. You have to switch it to manual focus to focus manually (unlike my Nikon 18-70mm)

Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

This is a great lens for the price. I use it on my D50 much more than the D50's included 18-55. The photos are very sharp for a lens of this price. If I were to replace this lens, it would be for one like the 18-200 VR, which is 5X the cost.

Coupled with Kenko's DG extension tubes, this lens works well for macro shots. For best results, turn off the autofocus on the lens, and use the zoom adjustment to focus.

Comments about Nikon Nikon 55mm - 200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Autofocus Zoom Lens with 5 Year U.S.A. Warranty:

This is a great lens that significantly expands the usefulness of my D50 camera. At first, I didn't understand that the camera wouldn't allow me to take a picture when the subject was too close. That's easy to happen with this telephoto lens. However, I now just back off a tad and the lens works fine. I'm not a pro but this is a great lens for an enthusiastic amateur.
