This lens is absolutely amazing. I was very impressed with the first few photos I took once I received it in the mail; they were quite clear and sharp. The lens has an amazing build that you can feel. It's quite slow when focusing, but it is pretty accurate! Lens is great even just as an everyday portrait lens. Right out of the box I got some amazing pictures of red and yellow tulips. I could see the veins popping through the petal. Very realistic! Great purchase!

I like to use the lens from F8 to F16 for depth of field. It is super sharp at all F stops. Needless to say, I love the lens. A while back I started to buy a "Brand X" lens - sure happy I waited and saved a few more dollars and bought this lens. Once again, it is a "MUST HAVE LENS".

I love to take pictures of bugs and flowers and this lens is perfect for this.
I can keep far enough away from the insectst that it does not bug them

This is my first true Prime Macro lens and in the short time I have had it, it is a blast. It is so much easier to be creative with then trying to get Macro type shots with a multi-purpose lens. The focus is crisp and the brokeh is quite smooth and appealing. It is a bit difficult to get used to the really short focus range. Although the f/3.5 is a slower (for the same price as the Nikkor 60mm that is 2.8) the 85mm working distance is comfortable and I find that you need to really stop down with a Macro lens anyway to get a good depth of field.

I have not really used the auto-focus so how quick it locks in has not been tested. I find that in Macro photography you really want to do manual focus anyway.

I really do like the VR since a tripod was not allowed at the Butterfly Pavillion where the test shots were made.

I believe you will really enjoy this lens but having a tripod or monopod is a must to get the real crisp shots since light is a premium with close-up work.
