Comments about Olympus Olympus Zuiko 9mm - 18mm f/4.0-5.6 E-ED Digital Zoom Lens for the E Digital SLR System.:

I have been wanting a Ultra Wide for a few years. I also Own Nikon and Canon but I always thought that the manufacturers lens were very expensive and heavy. The main reason I went to Olympus was there high quality tack sharp glass, the reasonable price for their lenses and the really light weight. When I compared my 40D with a 10-24 lens and my Olympus E-30, the Canon felt like a brick! There must have been 1-2 lbs of difference! I also like that the 9-18 only uses a 72mm lens filter instead of 77. Another thing I noticed about the Olympus 9-18 is that on my E-30 wide open with the built in flash there is no shadow cast by the lens! Plus with their high dispersion glass I have noticed no lens flare either. This lens is a home run.

I love the view that this lens puts out. The edges are in great focus. I like how you can get somewhat of a fisheye look without the expense.

Comments about Olympus Olympus Zuiko 9mm - 18mm f/4.0-5.6 E-ED Digital Zoom Lens for the E Digital SLR System.:

I purchased this lens to round out my selection of lenses. For the value, this lens has provided me a great option for those situation where a wide angle lens is needed to capture that image and include the background or to capture that up close image yet still maintain the overall scene. I have taken a few hundred images with this lens and have found great quality and excellent range of zoom. The only con I've found was that I found some vignetting on the widest angle setting but I am able to deal with it overall.

Comments about Olympus Olympus Zuiko 9mm - 18mm f/4.0-5.6 E-ED Digital Zoom Lens for the E Digital SLR System.:

Olympus finally released their "budget" priced 9-18mm wide angle, and so I scooped one up. Alot to talk about here. Compared to other companies propietary super-wides, it is indeed well priced. When compared to my Nikon 12-24, which is suppoosed to give the same exact angle of view, barring aspect ratio difference, the 9-18mm (both lenses are supposed to give the 35mm equivalent to 18-36), is actually wider, edge to edge, and that makes it all the more better considering that the four-thirds lenses give us more image on the vertical axis too, when shot horizontally. So, you get more image than even Olympus says. This is a plus. Now onto other things; the lens is suprisingly much smaller than I expected, with the body of the lens being the same size as the very compact 14-42 lens. Only the front element is larger, and even with the 72mm diameter, it still seems very small. Also, it's extremely lightweight. How does it perform? Outside in daylight, the lens is very sharp and contrasty with only minor noticeable edge softening. Of course, there is some wide angle distortion, but much less than expected with an ultra-wide like this. Inside, when the f-stop is opened up to its widest, the lens still performs extremely well, but there is more noticeable edge softening. Compared to my Nikon, it's pretty comparable actually, so this lens is a bargain.
