Comments about Pentax Pentax SMCP-DA 18mm - 135mm f/3.5-5.6 AL (IF) DC WR (Weather Resistant) Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLRs.:
For the price and after some of the reviews I've read, I expected better from Pentax. The tests and images I've taken so far show noticeable vignetting -especially with white backgrounds- and noticeable PF from 18-55 and noticeable CA from 55-135. The resolution and image quality is actually poorer than the kit SMC 18-55 DA II that came with my k200D. My old Vivitar zooms have better resolution and the Vivitar 75-205 close focus shows no PF and slight CA in comparison. My $5 Sears135 f/2.8 produces equal, if not slightly better, quality images. Images at 135 are disappointingly softer than the Vivitars or Sears, but are still usable. I really expected a lot better. If it wasn't for the weather resistant construction and fantastic fast/quiet focus, I'd return it. I haven't compared it to any other 18-135 or similar ranges to be absolutely fair. I'm keeping it because it is WR and a great range for a walk around kit lens. Don't get me wrong. It still takes nice looking images, but the quality in the little details disappoints me.
