I bought this lens used from Adorama, in like new condition to avail myself of a longer reach for birds, wildlife and general purposes with my K200D.

Thus far I have no negative comments on the performance.

Comments about Pentax Pentax SMCP-DA 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED Auto Focus Telephoto Zoom Lens:

I wanted a lens to compliment the std 18-55 Zoom that came with my Pentax camera. I have a manual focusing 80-200mm Pentax Zoom, but that leaves a gap and does not autofocus. This is a light compact weight lens that allows me to cover from 18-200 mm with two light easy to carry lenses. As always with Pentax lenses, I am pleased with the quality of the shots taken with them.

Comments about Pentax Pentax SMCP-DA 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED Auto Focus Telephoto Zoom Lens:

I continue to be amazed at the sharpness and color rendition of the [$] lens. It's compact size (& therefore light weight) make it convenient to carry around even in your pocket. At appertures of about f/8, this lens produces ultra sharp images throught out the entire zoom range. It is a great complement to the DA 18mm-55mm kit lens. I've had mine for about 2 years and I surprise myself each time I use it. Due to the f/5.6 max apperture, it is not suitable for low light or sports photography. But for everyday usage, it is a great lens at a great price.

Comments about Pentax Pentax SMCP-DA 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED Auto Focus Telephoto Zoom Lens:

After 20+ years of shooting Nikon equipment I recently switched to Pentax K10d. I have owned a Pentax 645 medium format and liked everything about the camera. It took me about 2 days to really get acquinted with the camera...EV & metering is a bit different than Nikon...but I'm very please with the images off the camera. As a second it's got good weight, ergonomics, and the controls are where they should be. The DA 50-200mm lens produces great especially when you consider the price. However, you won't sacrifice image quality. Not as great as a prime but it's plenty good. Very sharp & fast focus..no fall off. I produce a lot of enlargements to 34x44 and the images look great...like you would get from a medium format. This is one very good lens.

Comments about Pentax Pentax SMCP-DA 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED Auto Focus Telephoto Zoom Lens:

For the money and size, this is a surprisingly good lens. Excellent for daylight portraits and travel. However, when I compared images with a used 50 SMC-F 1.7, I realized what I had been missing, especially for nature and landscapes. While the 50-200 is good...the old prime blew it away, which is to be expected. For small photos, the zoom is great. But for large ones, the 50 mm prime blows it out of the water.

This lens is all that it says it is. I have a friend who bought the Sigma 70-300mm and he is now wishing that he had bought this Pentax lens. It is a lot lighter and the zooming action is very smooth.

About What You'd Expect

Comments about Pentax Pentax SMCP-DA 50-200mm f/4-5.6 ED Auto Focus Telephoto Zoom Lens:

A good starter telephoto zoom lens, but not fast enough for sports or other fast action, and having some vignetting at 50mm. About what you'd expect at this price.
