Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

This is a good overall lens for those who travel and want to be able to condense their equipment. This is a nice addition to casual and professional photographers who want to expand their capacity without breaking their bank account.

I have used this lens to cover political events where the need for multiple lenses provided me with the opporuntiy to use this lens and I was pleased with the results. While it is not as fast as I would like (prefering a 2.8 aperature as opposed to the 4.5~5.6 existing aperature) I can do without the weight. This is a nice medium priced telephoto zoom lens.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

While it lasted, this was a nice lens. The auto-focus was a bit fickle at times, but otherwise, great photos. It seems to be well-constructed and solid. After it got knocked off a low shelf onto a wood floor, I was astounded at how much damage resulted - certainly not a "Nikon" for ability to survive a hit. Great for the back yard but not a lens to take into the field.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

Very pleased with lens capability for my intended usage for wildlife and bird photos. I like the extended zoom range of this lens. With the vibration reduction, I can hand hold in low light with good results. I did not find it overly heavy, given this is a 400 zoom. Well balanced and nicely made lens. Adorama package with filter kit was a great deal.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

I'm hardly a professional, but I still take a lot of photographs that are shown in many locations. That being said, my expectations are still pretty high, and I really needed a lens that would deliver quality photos. Most of the reviews I read prior to buying it were favorable, and I would have to give this lens a big "thumbs up!" I almost opted for the 150-500mm, but for what I'm doing now (Mostly wildlife and landscapes) this lens is perfect. If you're looking for something that's flexible for what you're doing, this lens is right for you. Its weight isn't nearly as distracting as you might expect.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

I purchased this lens mostly for wildlife photography. It will produce sharp images even when racked out. I had some difficulty, at first, getting sharp images, but learned that the polarizing filter I was using was causing the softness in the images. The AF can be little flaky in low light, but I've learned to be patient and I will get the shot I'm looking for.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

I have been using this lens daily for feature, documentary and sports photography for more than six months. Easy to hand hold and adjust quickly. Great on my FX body when I want extra reach for an all day walking around assignment without a mono-pod. Love the strap and handle on the tripod ring. Focus is fast enough for softball, golf, sailing and elementary action sports. In daylight or studio it is great, but has a little trouble keeping focus as light falls off and indoor low light situations without infrared focus assist from a strobe. I use the IS feature a bunch indoor without a strobe and have learned to manage focus. With the hood on this lens looks normal, not the jackalope appearance seen here.
The only bummer is that the focus lock works only at 120mm. The zoom cuff starts out fairly tight and will loosen over time, which I like, but then you need to lock it down when walking around while shooting with other camera. Like all lenses you end up taping the switches on the barrel for your needs.

If you've been drooling over the Nikon VR zooms but can't justify spending the money, STOP. Look at the Sigma OS 120-400 then buy it. This lens renders incredible images that easily rival that of my Nikon branded gear. The HSM auto-focus is quick and very quiet! It's only flaw is weight but although its heavy it looks and feels very impressive. Other reviews might tell you its not suited for action photography but I have published razor sharp evidence to the contrary.

I don't leave home without it!

I foud my IDEAL tele-photo!

Comments about Sigma Sigma 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon AF Cameras:

I finally found my ideal telephoto lens!!

I have bought and sold many telephoto lens including:
1) Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 AF-S VR
2) Nikon 80-400mm AF VR
3) Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF-S VR

70-200mm is not enough reach for me and adding a TC2 defeats the purpose of fast-AF and sharpness. 80-400mm is sharp but it's the SLOWEST focus lens ever!!! Don't bother trying it unless you shot only still objects or scenes. 70-300mm is still not enough reach and the image quality is mediocre.

I was frustrated and have been waiting forever for Nikon to update its 80-400mm. I decided to give this Sigma lens a try and wow!! The focus is fast enough to catch 135mph race cars. The 400mm reach is great. The image quality is not worst than Nikon 70-300mm. And it's "light-weight"(compared to other x0-400mm) and hand-holdable. I am brand-bias (loyal to Nikon Nikkor) and still am. However this lens is exceptional. Give it a try and you will be surprised.

I mainly use the lens for taking pictures of wildlife. Its not the fastest focusing lens but it gets the job done.
It has sharp focus but takes a while to get use to it.
It is very heavy

Just bought this lens, while it is a bit heavy it was a must have for myself and my wife.
A little slow to focus, but for Nature and Landscape shots it is top of the line.

I was looking for the Canon 100-400mm, but was more than glad to have found the Sigma first and with the money saved I'm still looking for other camera equipment.
