Comments about Sigma Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Auto Focus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon EOS:

Purchasing this lens was not an easy decision, but I am truly thankful I did! I currently own several Sigma lenses and have always been satisfied with their quality and especially their price.....but this lens is not as light on the wallet. As a dedicated Canon user, I struggle with investing in this lens versus the "brand" Image Stabilized lens currently offered in f/2.8 (with a substantial increase in price). If you are reading this review, you might be struggling with the same decision. My best advise is to GO FOR IT and bring this Sigma lens home today (and save a ton of cash!) After having the opportunity to compare this lens side-by-side with Canon's new 70-200mm 2.8 IS II, I have come to the conclusion that the fractional difference in clarity (only at 200mm) does not offset the high cost of Canon's lens. The build quality is very high for both lenses but both have the drawback of being VERY heavy. The Sigma's focus speed is comparable and accuracy is tack sharp, especially between 90mm and 135mm around f-stop 5.6 to 8 (on APS-C platform). This lens also performs admirable with SIGMA's 2X Teleconverter at f5.6 (and you can buy both for less than the Canon lens alone). I am aware that the brand lens is highly rated and that "white lens" look carries prestige, but don't overlook this high performing alternative!
