Comments about Sigma Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DLM DG (Motorized) Macro Tele Zoom Lens for Nikon AF-D Cameras:

To qualify my con of slow focus this applies when using a tele-converter. I wanted this for insects and flowers. It's great for insects that do not let you up close to them. It is not a true 1:1 magnification but I guess that would be considerably more expensive. Great bang for MY buck! I have had this lens about 3 yrs.

I use this lens to shoot landscape/animal scenes. The lens is reliable in most situations if you take the time to familiarize yourself with its "personality". An all around good lens for the price. You will not be disappointed.

Actually bought this for my daughter for her Nikon D-60. So far we've shot landscapes, portraits, and some street photography. The lens has been relatively light, relatively quick to focus, and relatively sharp. A great price for a truly decent lense.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DLM DG (Motorized) Macro Tele Zoom Lens for Nikon AF-D Cameras:

i got this for my nikon D40 because it has a motor in it, so that it can autofocus. it focuses quickly and accurately, and takes good sharp photos. i was a bit disappointed with its claim to do macro photography as well- it sort of does, but you need to be at least 2 feet or so away from the subject. i had an earlier model of the same lens that let me get much closer, and was more of a real macro lens.
overall though, i am pretty happy with it.

Comments about Sigma Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DLM DG (Motorized) Macro Tele Zoom Lens for Nikon AF-D Cameras:

We are very pleased with this lens. We use it primarily for sports, it is necessary to have a tripod or similar to ensure clear photos, but I imagine that is the case with most any long lens. I would recommend this lens, we have been using it for about two months without any issues.

This is a great lens for the money... the motorized focus is louder than the equivalent Nikkor, but it isn't advertised as an "HSM" lens

Bought it on a lark! What a surprise! Sharp to 8x10 and beyond. No VR but on a tripod who cares? Shooting birds and first base. Both are sharp on edges and great in the daylight. Night games are edgy but for the money: What a Surprise!!Bought a 2nd for my son-in-law!!

Comments about Sigma Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DLM DG (Motorized) Macro Tele Zoom Lens for Nikon AF-D Cameras:

I got this lens because I wanted something inexpensive to shoot from cheap seats at baseball games - cheap enough seats that the 55-200VR doesn't cut it - and am pleasantly surprised. For the price I wasn't expecting much, but it's sharper wide open than the 55-200VR (which compensates for the lack of VR) and Ive been getting quite good image quality. It doubles as a serviceable macro lens and I've been shooting spring flowers with it and my D90.

Also, don't confuse Sigma's DG and DC lenses. DC are for DX digital only (like Nikon DX lenses) but this is a DG lens, which is like a Nikon FX lens. I can use it with my F75 and shoot film.

Downsides are size/weight - being an FX lens this is beastlier than a DX lens - and it does creep if it's dangling vertically from a neck strap. Also, of course, it's not as fast or sharp as an expensive lens. There's an APO version of this lens which is a bit more expensive and optically a bit better.
