Comments about Sony Sony 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 a (alpha) Mount Digital SLR Telephoto Zoom Lens with Hood.:
I knew this lens was not a real short lens but, the length coupled with the weight on the lightweight A55 Sony makes it really nose heavy and not a comfortable to use lens. I will be ordering a compact telephoto and hopefully this will make for a better feel. The lens does focus fairly fast and seems to do a good job of staying in focus even when shooting video. Mostly my mistake in ordering a lens that wasn't what I really wanted.

Having just received the Sony A500 camera and 18-55 mm & 75-300 mm Sony lens, I have not been able to take many photos yet. However; I am pleased with photos so far. Attaching photo of Red Tailed Hawk in the woods and crop of small part of the original photo. I think details held up pretty well for this much of a corp. Taken with Sony 75-300 mm kit lens at 250 mm, 1/500, f6.3

Not a horrible lens, [...] If you are looking for QUALITY then you have got to go with a good Sigma or even the more pricier Sony one, but all and all it's not horrible.

This is the same (Konica) Minolta lens. Nothing new. The only differences are placing of markings- aperture, Sony logo and different rubber grip. These however are just cosmetic things. Lens is not the sharpest, but not the worst either. I think it is a good deal. Especially when you consider the price and fact that you get hood included. I find that Sony misleads customers- 75-300 mm is only if you use it on film or full sensor camera. In real life it is 112.5-450 mm. I base my review on Konica Minolta, I tested it with A100. It is quite fast, but you still get blurry shots, even with image stabilization turned on.

This lesn fills the niche for overall range. I now have the 18-70, this lens (75-300), and will be purchasing the 200-500 as soon as I can afford it. This gives me an effective lens battery of 27 through 750mm lens' without a doubler or other exander for my Alpha 350. This should be great... I marled it down one level because I believe the focus and related alignments could be a little better, but that would be pretty much a blanket issue for me.
