I have several Zeiss lenses for my Sony Alpha A700 system. The 85mm F 1.4 is the sharpest and fastest. We all know that prime non-zoom lenses are the sharpest...and that holds true with this lens. It is incredibly sharp...and produces the finest boca I have ever seen. It also produces that wonderful Zeiss contrast and color balance that really makes your photos come alive. If your a portrait shooter...and want some outstanding pics...buy one of these...its expensive...but definately worth it. My portrait business has increased since I started using this lens. It really has made a difference. I will NEVER sell it, its now a permanent part of my kit! It also works with full frame cameras.

Sony's Zeiss Planar 85mm/1.4 is among the sharpest lenses I've ever seen. I've long been a fan of Zeiss medium format glass - particularly the Zeiss lenses for the Contax 645. Not only is this lens incredibly sharp, but somehow even captures a "medium format" look and feel...

This lense will make you shine as a photographer and it will capture those special moments and people in the most memorable way, giving your subjects dimension and meaning on paper. I absolutely swear by it. My lens has since been dropped so many times that I am getting ready to drop another 1k+ to buy the new Sony version (it was minolta when I owned it), my family photos are worth it. I am having our 3rd child and I would be remiss as a mom not to give this baby a chance at the stellar baby shots my first two boys have to look at later in life. It's super in natural light. The only inconvenience is it's weight..it's heavy and not a "carry around the park all day", camera to catch a cool shot. It is by no means a pocket lense..but it is the best and worth every penny.
