I got this because I really wanted a bright zoom in this range for portait and general photography. The Sigma and Nikon equivalents were out of my price range. My one worry when I ordered it was that some folks have had trouble with the focusing on this lens. So the first thing I did on getting it was take it to shoot my son and his friend playing a gig at a local bar. There were no stage lights there, and it was so dark that I had to crank my D5000 up to ISO 6400. Even shooting at f/2.8 at that ISO, the shutter speed ranged from 1/10s to 1/30s. Nonetheless, in this torture-test condition, the lens always focused quickly and accurately Of course, at that ISO and speed the photos were quite noisy and on the soft side. But the lens was up to the challenge, even if it stressed the camera's sensor. I am very pleased with this lens.
Shot with D5000 @ 6400 ISO, f/2.8, 1/30s

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
This lens excels optically. Very sharp, great contrast, and though it can't create 1:1, it gets close enough to give great walk-around macro. It's a very versatile lens, it's also very lightweight. It's durability seems lower than the Sigma EX lenses I own, as well as less than Nikon (but it is also very lightweight as well, meaning it's quite a bit more packable than the Nikon versions). The one area this lens let me down in was autofocus, which though very accurate, was very slow. I wouldn't use it for moving subjects, myself (my shooting experience was with a D300, so it wasn't the body). Later, I ended up getting a Nikon 28-70, and the AF is lightyears ahead. But, it's also a lot more expensive, and optically, the Tamron is a close match to the fabled Beast. Just don't expect things it won't deliver and this is an exceptional lens for the money.

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
This lens is wonderful for close up portraits or macro, but difficult for anything else without a tripod. My other lens has VR, this one doesn't and it is extremely apparent when comparing shots at the end of the day. Additionally, the auto-focus has been generally pretty good but sometimes says the lens is not attached to the camera when it clearly is. This is frustrating.
Buy this lens only if you are willing to carry a tripod and additional lenses for anything with lower light. As for the sharp portrait shots, you can get that with a less expensive prime lens.

Great lens. Absolutely my favorite for taking portrait photo's in a studio setting using shoot thru umbrellas. The results are always crystal clear and no distortion. The price is very reasonable for the quality you get.

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
I have compared this lens to other lenses in it's category, and this lens beats them hands down. A very balanced and tack sharp lens. Easy to hold and built for image quality (even though it is a zoom). I have also compared it to other brand name prime lenses, and this lens competes head to head. It's one great lens!!!

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
I have Nikon lenses which somewhat overlap the zoom range of this lens at both ends. I compared the image quality, sharpness at corners and edges, and contrast, at the same wide apertures and focal lengths of this lens with the Nikons. To my amazement the Tamron blew away the Nikons in the long and short zoom ranges where they overlap!

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
I use this lens for general photography such as people shots and dim light. With photography equipment getting more and more expensive, it's nice to find a bargain now and then. This lens costs 1/3 or less as much as the comparable Nikon, and I don't see much difference in performance. Plus, it is considerably lighter and smaller than the Nikon. Strongly recommend this lens, especially for full-frame cameras like my D700.

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
This is a great lens for anyone who wants to have an f/2.8 zoom that is very sharp and has good color and Contrast. Images are very good and they do pop! CA is well controlled and it is at its best from F/4 on; though f/2.8 is quite nice.
Is it as good as the Nikon, not quite; however, is the Nikon $1000+ better? Not in my estimation. Its focus is not as slow as many complain. Why Tamron has not adopted the newer motor tech, I can't understand.
To its credit, this lens is significantly lighter than the Nikon lens and will be a real asset to people who do alot of walking with their camera.

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
I purchased this lens to use on my Nikon D300 and for my wife to use on her Nikon D40X. I also purchased this lens as a substitute for my Nikon 24-70 mm F2.8. While the Nikon is a nicer lens the Tamron gives Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 a run for the money [...]I am glad I made this purchase because it makes cents! The Nikon is much heavier, attracts attention (especially with the hood), and is very expensive - The Tamron smaller, lighter and is not a $1800 attached to my camera and the Tamron does not shout expensive lens to passer byers.I did not encounter any slow focus problems however I could see it be an issue in certain circumstances and at F2.8 it is no Nikon 24-70mm but is very good.Life is great when you own both lenses but I would still be happy with the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
Performs well, but the autofocus is a bit slow and inconsistent. Sometimes it focuses right away, other times it hunts to focus. Other than that, it takes great pictures, especially for the price.

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
I was using the Nikon 18-200 dx and switched over to this when I decided to purchase an fx body. I have been very pleased with this lens. It's remarkable throughout it's field. It is sharp and consistent, and wonderful for the price range. It's not as quick to focus as the nikon, but it is quicker than the sigma (if I remember correctly). I was much more pleased with the colors from this lens over the Sigma. If I had lots of money to throw around I'd probably purchase the Nikon, but for the price I'd say this is a fantastic alternative. The 6 year warranty by Tamron really means they back up their product!
The only real con I have about this lens is how loud it is. It's not like construction work, but when I'm used to internal focusing this one seems loud. When I'm photographing at a rock concert, or birthday parties I don't even notice it.

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
This lens is fanatastic. It is sharp and focuses quickly with my D300. I've used it for one wedding and nature photos so far. Having a consistent, and fast, aperture makes life easier in low light or when blurring a distracting background.

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
I bought this for taking pictures of my daughter's gymnastics meets. Having the f2.8 available is invaluable for indoor sports events. The lens is well balanced and bigger/heavier/more rugged than it looks in the pictures.
I've had some problems attaching it to my Nikon D50, but that's primarily because the mount is slightly different from Nikon manufactured lenses. I've also noticed that the autofocus is off slightly, but that may be the camera.
The lens produces great quality images and is what I've come to expect from Tamron.

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
Fast Autofocus, Fairly Sharp even wide open at f/2.8 throughout the zoom range. Good Contrast, pretty good color saturation. Two things I wish this lens possessed; better macro magnification than 1.39, and I wish there was less plastic and more metal. I like a heavy lens, the ability to feel the durability of the construction. Other then these two attributes, this lens is fantastic for the money, I've always liked Tamron lenses with my D200 and D300.

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
I just got this lens a week ago. I'm very impressed in it's low light proformance. I'm still getting use to all this lens can do. I find that at f/2.8 (all focal lengths) and 1/30 ~ 1/90th shutter speeds will get you thought most low light situations. Just play around with it or bracket your shots, use a tripod for best results in low light (I've hand held with no problems also). Will update this review as I get more hours behind this lens. I use this lens on my D200.

If you have reasonable expectations from this sub [$]lens then you will be happy. I shoot mostly at f5.6 and this lens is slightly sharper than the Nikon 18-70 kit lens at the same aperture. The rotating focus ring during auto-focus takes some getting used to but this is a very good lens once you get used to the ergonomics of handling and operating it.
Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
very strong saturated colors
mounted on Nikon D70s, worked very well in autofocus mode. Macro is very good, but would prefer 1:2.5 instead of 1:3.9

Comments about Tamron Tamron SP 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD-IF Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon AF - U.S.A. Warranty:
Best value in a 2.8 mid-zoom? Quite possibly. Great for sports, you can shoot wide open at fast shutter speeds and get tack-sharpness. Also good for concerts or indoor/low-light situations. Definitely sharper than the 18-70 nikkor DX, which i hardly ever use now. Excellent bokeh. No noticeable distortion or CA, fast AF in all but pitch darkness. Lightweight, which could be a plus for travel uses, but not as sturdy build quality as, say, the tokina at-x series. Can be used on digital or film bodies. Decent for portraits, but best suited for photojournalists, sports/action shooters, and walkaround/travel users. would be a 5 if it started at 24mm or extended to 90 or 105mm, but then it would cost more. At the price -- 1/3rd of nikon equivalent -- only a nikkor snob would argue against it. Go ahead, pay more, see if i care.
tamron 28-75, f/ 2.8, 1/1000 sec. unretouched.
