Very usefull lens, especially if you're looking for some nice zoom range as beginner photographer this would be a nice lens to start it. Price u can't really beat it, compare the price it functions pretty nice, pretty nice quality of pictures as well.
Somebody asked if this would work with pentax k-r.
yes it will. just make sure to buy the pentax model, because i believe they also make for canon, and nikon mount.

I use this cheap easy little lens when i shoot sports out on the sidelines. Very low risk, fast focus. The zoom sticks a bit but that seems to be sorting itself out with time. Works well the the onboard shake reduction on the Pentax bodies.

I bought this lens for my wife's Pentax K-x.
I've used it as well, Picture comes out pretty nice. You don't need a tripod for this 300mm lens when it's nice outside. it's got macro options as well, so you could take a picture of close ups.

Comments about Tamron Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD 1:2 Auto Focus Macro Zoom Lens with Hood for Pentax AF, 6 Year USA Warranty:

I use this mostly for wildlife (birds) and sports. I agree with most reviewers that it's a great first telephoto lens and for the price, is surprisingly good. The price just cannot be beat. But also keep in mind you are paying bargain prices, so don't expect too much. I found the autofocus fast enough, but not lightning quick. I can get decent shots of birds flying, so it can't be too slow. My biggest complaint is the casting and PF. One of these reviews was right on the money: if used wide open in bright light at long focal on subjects of high contrast, the PF is absolutely awful. This is a big disappointment to me considering that my son's soccer team's jerseys are high contrast and they play in sunny TX and I have to use long focals!! But for other situations, I've been able to get it to work. It shoots best with the least amount of PF if < 200 mm or so and at F8-11. I usually stay in F8-11 and adjust ISO to get the shutter speed I need for bird shots. It's not optimal, but it works and has produced some great pictures. Despite my hatred of the PF, I would still recommend this lens because the price is just about as low as you can go. The macro capabilities are great. Very happy with those shots.

Comments about Tamron Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD 1:2 Auto Focus Macro Zoom Lens with Hood for Pentax AF, 6 Year USA Warranty:

I bought this lens to be used with my Pentax K-X. This is my first DSLR and have been hooked since I got it two months ago. The standard lens that came with the camera was great but I wanted something with more zoom and was interested in a macro. I found this lens to not only fit those requests but was in my price range. I read lots of reviews about the edges coming out blurry when blown up but though it would not be an issue since it is more for my outdoor adventures with my family and dogs. I have not intention of using this lens for pictures larger than standard sizes. Needless to say I am relly impressed with the speed and the quality of the pictures. I can see where a higher quality lens would have more advantages but at this price it is a phenomenal lens. One thing that I was surprised was the macro function is not available till 180mm. This is something I was not aware of and may be just my ignorance to the art of photography but would have liked the macro to be available for the entire range of the lens. Great lens for the budget minded.

I have used this lens quite a bit on both my K110D, and K10D, and am totally satisfied with it. Have taken it to baseball games, parks, the Zoo, and get consistently nice results.

And the Macro function is another reason I love this lens 1:2 macro capability from 180-300mm

There are optically better lenses than Tammie 70-300 LD Di, sure. But not for this price or even similar. Aberrations and flare at the long end appear on strong sunlight, lens stopped to f8 - f11 is pretty sharp on 300.

Comments about Tamron Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD 1:2 Auto Focus Macro Zoom Lens with Hood for Pentax AF, 6 Year USA Warranty:

I bought this as something of a starter telephoto zoom and wasn't expecting very much in terms of optical quality, but I wanted something sharper than the Pentax 50-200mm kit zoom. This Tamron delivered the desired optical quality and usefulness, and at a really low price. This really is a worthwhile and practical lens, particularly given that it covers full frame formats (I suppose that we'll see a full-frame Pentax some day; everyone else has one on the market by now.) Up to about 200 mm, this is a quite sharp lens at medium aperatures. Nothing fancy, but really good optical quality and usability for the money. I am sufficiently satified that I am not planning to buy a more expensive tele zoom.

sharp, but has a bit too much PF

Comments about Tamron Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD 1:2 Auto Focus Macro Zoom Lens with Hood for Pentax AF, 6 Year USA Warranty:

Very sharp up to about 220mm, but gets noticably softer (but still sharper than the equivalent Sigma) above that w/ a lot more purple fringing in high contrast areas. Also has noticable purple fringing when wide open, so it's best stopped down.Because of these limitations, it's a bit too slow to use for sports (tried it at the US open and I'm happy w/ my pics, but wish I could have used it wide open) unless you plan on resizing the pictures down and sharpening them.A good purple fringing test is to shoot the top of a metal fence in direct sunlight. You'll see CA (green fringing) past your focus point, and PF closer to you.But it's only[$] To get better performance w/ longer focal lengths, you'd have to spend around $1000...

For the price, it can't be beat. I would not hesitate to recommend it. It can be used for most of the picture taking I do which include wildlife, group pictures, macro shots and sports. It does not add significant weight and is not difficult to hold and shoot for extended periods. When I wear it out, I'm sure I'll get another one.
