Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

This is a great lens and compareable to the Nikon 105mm macro. The focus is effortless at macro range (manual)...it feels so fluid and well built. This Tokina feels like a tank without the weight (I believe it's around half the weight of the Nikon). In short, buy this lens and save yourself the not so worth it $500 extra for the Nikon. I love Nikon lenses but when you find a gem like this that is half the cost, go with it.

Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

This is really great, versatile lens, excellent for close up MACRO use and Portraits too. It is every bit as good a lens as all the other reviews have stated. The lens zooms very easily and does not 'creep' from the setting. It takes great close up photos with no discernible fringing. Internally there is some brass utilzed, as opposed to Nikon's (perfectly durable) plastic. At a cost less than half that of the Nikon equivalent, you cannot go wrong with this Tokina MACRO lens. There is, however, some other information to pass along. The aperture ring goes from f2.8 to f32 with the f2.8 to f22 numerals in white. The f32 is in green. There is also a mechanial 'slide-lock tab' with can be used to lock the aperture ring at f32 (only), preventing accidental movement. When 'locked' by the slide-lock tab, a green dot appears on the lock tab which shows the 'lock' condition. The locked aperture is a setting (and feature) that one would normally utilize on any 'aperture ring' lens mounted to a Nikon DSLR. The documentation supplied with this 100mm f2.8 MACRO lens does NOT identify (show) this lock tab nor explain that there is one, and what its function is. A minor issue, but still, someone missed that when creating the documentation and lens features' diagram. Overall the quality of this lens seems to be above reproach. A final note: Tokina lenses are warranted for three years and are made in Japan, and the quality control [...] of this product seems to be good.

Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

I looked at all the Nikon macro (micro) lenses and compared them with off brand lenses and the Tokina came out on top in terms of optics and price as well. Amazingly sharp macro photos and while I don't use it as a walk around lens it would serve that purpose if necessary. I love the ergonomics, especially the AF/MF clutch. Mine is sharpest at 5.6 or 8 and balances perfectly on my D7000. You won't regret buying this lens.

Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

As always, it was a pleasure dealing with Adorama, especially in this case since the lens had to be back ordered. I've only had the lens for a little more than a month, but so far it has been a pleasure to use. Outstanding bokeh that adds a whole new level of possibilities to the visual style of my photos. Captures great details. Was also considering the Nikon 85mm macro with VR for about the same money, but went with the extra focal length. Very happy with my purchase.

Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

I bought this lens after giving much consideration to the more expensive Nikkor 105mm macro, Tamron 90mm and Sigma 105mm. My decision was driven by the incredible price and many reviews I read in which the reviewer said they loved the lens. Let me parrot back what they've all said---great lens at a great price. I've used it mostly to shoot flowers, insects and some other macro shots as I am just learning macro photography. I found the lens to be well built, quick to focus, and it has remarkable bokeh. For the price of admission, I could not be happier. Highly recommended.

I already have the Tokina 11-16 mm lens and am very happy. That's why the decision was made for the Tokina macro lens is not difficult. Very sharp image. The Auto Focus is at distances from 1 m as fast as in all other AF lenses as well. In the macro range, in fact, a little slow, but on a tripod, I use manual focus.

I own both Nikon and Tamron lenses, I'm so impressed with my new Tokina, my next buy is going
to be another Tokina lens. These two pics were
taken in my backyard right after I took the lens out of the box with my D80. The manual focus overide ring makes up for the sometimes slow focus.

Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

Very nice macro lens. It's a little heavy - but that is not a con! Solidly built, fits snugly on my D80, very sturdy, and easy to grip. Have only had it about a week but have not been disappointed by the quality of this lens. Definitely worth getting if you are on a budget and can't afford the Nikon macro's, save yourself some money and grab this instead.

Not a con but - when this thing zooms in and out, watch out for your fingers - I have big hands so a finger sometimes gets in the way of the lens as it moves...just a thought.

Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

I've had the lens now for about 2 weeks. Have shot about 200 or so pictures of both Macro and general. Just wanted to get a feel for both the ability and operations quickly. First impressions? Wow.

Great feel and build quality. Had concerns with the idea of buying a lessor priced lens. Usually stick with glass from Nikon, but I am not disappointed in the purchase. This lens meets all the benchmarks I look to in a "quality" product.

Images made are amazing! Tack sharp. Smooth and predictable bokah. Depth of field exactly what you want and need with a Macro.

No issues with slow focus as mentioned by other reviews. It hits the mark every-time. I tried numerous shots in manual mode, and found it well damped, smooth and easy to reach the focus point quickly.

With the 2.8 speed, I have been extremely satisfied in shooting in lower than normal lighting conditions.

I am very pleased I made the decision to go with this lens over the pricey Nikon 105 I was considering. Not only does this lens take great pictures I kept $500. in my pocket.

If you can get this lens (been backordered) go for it.. There is a reason for the backorders. One terrific piece of glass at a bargain price.

Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

When I switched from Sony to Nikon I gave up my beloved Tamron 90mm Macro. I read great reviews of the Tokina 100mm and have not been disappointed. I love the unique quick push-pull switch from auto to manual focus. Results are sharp as a tack, color fidelity is excellent, bokeh is beautiful, and the lens is well built. It seems to hunt less in dim light than did the Tamron. Auto focus is precise and the lens does well in portrait shooting. For Macro, one should use the manual focus and it is quick and accurate. My only complaint, and that is minor, is that Tokina should provide a pouch or case with the lens.

Best 100mm Macro Value for Nikon

Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

I will start out by saying that macro photography is not my primary focus. I enjoy it as a diversion to making images of wildlife. As a result I did not want to spend big dollars on a 100mm macro, however I also have a low tolerance for soft lenses. I would have spent the extra on the Nikon 105mm VR if I thought there was any additional value.

In the end, after having researched/purchased/used the Tokina, it's excellent and I think it is the best value in this lens category for Nikon SLRs. The Nikon 105mm has some inconsistent focus at macro distances, the VR is useless at close range (although helpful if used as a portrait lens), and is certainly not worth double the price.

Below are 2 example photos, both hand held. Use of a tripod provides even more sharpness, and IMO this little Tokina leaves nothing on the table in terms of quality.

Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

I already own the Tokina 12-24 and was in the market for a macro lens. The chatter on the internet for this lens was just as favorable as the 12-24, so I jumped on it.It is incredibly sharp, so much so that it can break egos. If your shots aren't coming out sharp, you're doing something wrong. Also when shooting portraits, this lens will pull out a lot of detail, exposing every flaw and blemish in your subject. We're talking down to the pores and lines.Of course, you get the famous Tokina build and the manual focus clutch. The manual focus clutch comes in handy when doing macro and the throw of the focus ring is nice and long. The focus limiter is a good feature to have as it will lock to either end, short or long.I wish the lens hood was petal shaped so I could get to the focus ring when it is mounted reversed. I also need to look into the IR performance. I'm hoping with the new coating that it will do better than the rest of my lenses. This lens is a great deal [...]

Great product from Tokina for 1/2 the price of Nikon 105mm VR. Tankina is what people called for its solid built. It produces very sharp images, too.

Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

Easily handles closeups of the wildflowers I favor photographing. Very smooth and accurate focus in both manual and auto focus modes. The positioning of the magnification scale in the focus window almost impossible to read (although I ordinarily would not use it anyway). Good medium telephoto lens for ordinary use as well.

Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

This lens has turned out to be better than I expected. I am using it on a Nikon D200 to do extreme closeups of orchids and other exotic tropical flowers. The color and sharpness of the resuts have been superb. I would say its quality rivals the more expensive Nikon lenses I have.

Comments about Tokina Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Digital and Film Cameras:

I am a field Biologist and use this often with my Nikon D200 to take close ups of Fungi, and other small living organisms as well. Pictures are really nice if not stunning. I got rid of my Nikon 105mm macro because this one works better. Color capture is phenominal as is the detail capture with this lens.
