Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

This is one of the three sharpest lenses I have ever owned - the Leica 50mm f2 Summicron, the Nikon 35mm F2 AF, and the Tokina 11-16 f2.8. I thought I'd use it mostly for scenics, but it turns out to be fabulous for my medical equipment shots in busy rehab departments. This lens helps one see the world in different, more wide-angle ways. You become more sensitive to the compositional opportunities to highlight multiple planes. it you have the confidence to shoot close and use all those planes - even when one is a VERY close person - you'll "rediscover" photography. I use mine for video on the D7000 I bought from Adorama, and the 1080p HD view with this lens is breathtaking. The best [$] you will spend in photography!

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

I haven't had any problems with it. It autofocuses quickly and accurately on my D90, I haven't noticed the issue with overexposure on the 16mm end, and it's built very well. The only time I've gotten lens flare was when I was taking a picture of somebody and there was a lamp directly to the right of the camera. Also, I don't think you're going to be blowing out the background with this thing anytime soon, no matter how close your focus is or how wide open your aperture is.

Versus the Nikon 10-24 or Canon 10-22 I think there is a clear trade-off. Get the Nikon or Canon if you don't want to be changing lenses as much. I found the 16 mm a little short (too wide) for a walk around lens.

If you prefer low light performance and slightly sturdier construction then choose this brilliant lens instead!

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

This is a great little lens. I almost always have this in my back and it never dissapoints. It's fast, quiet, and reliable. My only real gripe about it is that it doesn't work on full frame, but at 11mm, what do you expect. The 2.8 maximum aperture is great for shooting indoors under less than optimal lighting conditions, and if you stop it down, you get beautiful landscapes and scenery. For half the price of a Nikon equivalent, with probably most of if not all of the quality and results, this is a bargain at every angle. As many reviews have said, with a zoom range of only 5mm, you can hardly call this a zoom lens, but if you're looking for a wide, fast, and inexpensive lens, this is the way to go.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

This is an amazing lens that demands that you get in close and be creative. It is very sharp and has simple distortion that is easier to correct than the Nikon ultra wide zoom. I am very glad that I purchased it and would recommend it highly to photographers who are not shy and don't mind getting very close to get some interesting perspectives not available with other ranges.

An amazing lens! Well built, great optics, no visible vignetting at 11mm. Only drawbacks: sticky mount and the need for a snap on lens cap if you go with a threadless filter to prevent vignetting. Demands that you get up close and personal. Tough on us old guys, 'cause you'll get some of the best shots with your chin in the dirt!

You simply cannot beat the value of this lens. It is constant f/2.8 and sharp at all focal lengths. It does have a short focal range but this increases the IQ. The lens has a pro build quality. AF/MF clutch is easy to use. For the money you will not find a finer peice of glass.

This is a great super-wide for an APS D-SLR. It's really sharp for an ultra-wide and no other company if making anything as fast as 2.8 The only con is that the 11-16mm focal length doesn't give you much to play with but it's not much of a draw back.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

If you are looking for a wide angle zoom range lens for your DX format NIKON, THIS IS THE ONE !!I have research for several months, and i have tested brands like Sigma, Tokina, Tamron and Nikon, the Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 beat them all, it even beats the NIKON 12 24mm it self in several issues. This is a very good Pro lens that feels like it is going to last to be used for my future generations, it has a very good weight, for some people it would be heavy, but for me it is perfect due to the confidence to shot on a tripod for example, it balance prety good on my D300 and my old D50, i think that the weight is due for the quality of its materials and optics but weight is not a big deal in this case .Wide angle lenses tends to be very sharp, but this tokina.. BOY !!! let me tell you that the sharpness of this lens should be illegal, it is very sharp even at 2.8 11-16mm from center to corner, at least i do not notice any significan softness in a printed photo,GOOD BYE TO SOFTNESS !!!!Colors are beautiful and no chromatic aberrations found at a fair magnification and wide open.a very confortable issue i found on this lens is the mechanical cluth to swith from manual to auto focus allowing you to transfer fast while shooting, the focus ring is very soft and confortable, it is a pleasure to shoot all day with this lens.I use this tokina mainly as my story teller lens, i love the easy way to put several elements every time i compose my images with this Pro glass, it is a great lens for news photography, but also for architecture, interior and exterior, it is a weapon for low light situations.this Tokina may also be used for landscape (Sunsets, and sea shots, mountains and gardens)I was not convinced to purchase this lens because it is not a NIKON, but if you chose to purchase this lens you will forget about brand once you start shooting with this gem.[...]

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

I purchased this lens for couple of applications. I often work with custom home builders and Realtors. This lens will allow me to deliver some dramatic interior and exterior shots to help them show their work and listings. I also like the wide angle view without the 'Fish eye' effects and this lens is great for landscapes. I haven't used it in low light/night situations yet but each non-flash shot has been clean so far in normal light. I debated and researched several wide lenses from Nikon, Tamron and Sigma but the balance of quality, specifications and price always came back to the 11-16mm 2.8f Tokina, especially when the majority of the reviews were very favorable. This is another very favorable review. I use it with a Nikon D90 with a Tiffen 77mm UV wide angle thin glass filter. This is my first Tokina lens and I am very impressed with the speed, the construction and the functionality.

Several years ago, I had a Tokina wide angle soom that was less than adequate, so it took some convincing to get me to try this one. I am glad I did. Tokina has evidently learned a lot in the intervening decade. This lens is very sharp at all apertures and a joy to use-solid build and easy manual focusing. And the perspetive at 11mm makes me forget the limited zoom range. This one is a real keeper!

I wanted a good, fast ultrawide, and all the reviews of this lens told me this was the one. I love it so far. I've been able to photograph things from all kinds of new perspectives, and this lens gives me more freedom to do that than I ever imagined. It's also a good balance of features and value at this price. One note: If you haven't used an ultrawide before, do some research to learn some tricks. There are a lot of online lessons.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

I found this lens as a trade on [...]for my Canon 100mm f2.8 USM Macro (non L) with Canon tripod collar. It was a great trade for us both as the 11-16 doesn't give a full image on the full frame cameras the trader now has. However I got the lens, it is hands down the best UWA I've ever used. I've owned three before this one. They were: Tokina ATX 17mm(bad CA), Sigma 17-35(soft) Tamron 10-24(soft). It seems with most UWA you can usually find one that's sharp but has heavy CA. Or you can find one that is mostly free of CA but is soft. This lens is sharp AND mostly free of CA.The bonus is f2.8. Sure it'll take in more light than any other UWA. More importantly, it'll produce more background blur than any other UWA in close ups.More pluses: +Comes with a lens hood. +Tokina lenses are all built better than most others; especially ones of this price range. +Uses the common 77mm filter thread like most pro lenses do.The only slight drawback I can say about this lens is the push pull switch from AF to MF. Tokina calls this their 'exclusive focus clutch mechanism'. Well not sure how exclusive it is since my Sigma 24mm prime has the same thing. In any case, it's more of a pain to use than just flipping the usual little switch. But I won't knock the lens because of this.

Believe every good review out there! I have to say Ken Rockwell nailed the review... ghosting and glaring is a factor in extreme conditions but the lens hood helps tons! Perfect focus! Super sharp images! Creamy bokeh! Amazing colors and contrast even without filters! Built like a rock! Filters are no issue. People say at f/2.8 it looses sharpness, and I agree; but that doesn't mean the image won't be sharp. Optical quality kills all Nikon DX ultra-wide lenses.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

This Tokina lens is a real standout performer and easily surpasses the Nikon 12-24mm f4. It is spectacularly sharp at all focal lengths, and looks very good at full aperture. My only complaint is that the lens provides a full f-stop more exposure at 16mm than at 11mm. The increase in exposure as one moves from 11 to 16 is incremental, with the exposure increasing about 20% with each increase in focal length. Normally this would bother me greatly, but I find that almost all of my shooting is at 11mm, and the overall sharpness of the lens simply outweighs any concerns about the difference in exposure as one changes focal length. It is far easier to make a simple exposure compensation for shots at 16mm, than it is to try to equal the Tokina's sharpness with anything from Nikon.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

I am extremely pleased with this lens, as it is very sharp, has a fast maximum aperature, and has excellent color. There is one problem with the lens, however, and that is its tendency to give increasing exposure as one zooms from 11-16mm. At 16mm the lens is one full f-stop brighter that it is at 11mm. There is a consistent increase of one-fifth f-stop for each focal length offered. However, this is not difficult to compensate for and, even though this would nomally bother me, the lens performs so well in all areas, that I find that it is not a problem for me. All in all, this is a great lens, built to professional standards of strength. One more thing. The lens does no elogate as on focuses or zooms, very nice!

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

Great clear glass. Very good built, solid feel.

I'm using it with the D40, knowing that it will not AF on my camera. I'm pleasantly surprised that it is not hard to manually focus, and the camera's AF sensor (dot on the bottom left of viewfinder) is a good indicator that the object is in focus.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

This lens is a very good wide angle lens, i´ve being using it for 1 month (on a daily basis)and until now i have not found any cons.

The iamges this lens produce are very very sharp, with an exeptional color, distortion apears when using to shot closer objects but it´s a wide angle lens and is part of shooting with this type of lenses, (the distortion is reasonable)

The construction of this lens is superior to other wide angle lenses, it feels very solid
(built for the most demanding Pro)

I´m very happy with this lens, Thanks TOKINA, and thankS ADORAMA, YOU PEOPLE ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL

[...]I was hesitant because of some negative review. I was looking at adorama website in November and to my surprise, they were available and ready to ship. Since I always want to try this lense and F/2.8 sounds appealing, I ordered it [...] I took some test shot at F2.8 with my D90 and it was very sharp in the center. The corner was little soft only at 100% crop. At F5.6, it was sharp all over. I highly recommeded this lense. This lense is a great alternative to the Nikon and give you the F2.8 when you need it. I believed my serial number start with 824xxxx. Well worth the wait!!!

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

I had very high expectation on this lens based on the review I read everywhere.[...]But it was a big disappointment as I was not lucky enough to get a good piece. The AF was not at all able to deliver sharp impages in any condition...indoor or ouotdoor, good light or low light..any aperture. Even with Manula focus, i was not able to get sharp images, although it was slightly better than the AF. This Lens is well know for its AF issues. Many people had to change several pieces to get a good one. I just did not had the patience to try that. This was my first non Nikon Lens and now after this experience, feel like sticking to Nikon in spite of the higher price. Compared to Nikon, the price was less and the f2.8 part caught my fancy.Being a Nikon Lens user from the day I started, I also did not like the mechanism this lens had for changing from M to AF. I suspect that has something to do with poor AF capability of the Lens.[...]

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

I was a pure Nikon professional for 25 years.

Systems used: F3, F5, D-200, D-300. In retirement I presently have the D-300 w/17-55 DX F2.8 and 70-200 DX F2.8 VR. Now looking for a super wide I was about to purchase a Nikkor 12-24 mm F4 DX. In fact I had ordered the lens on the web.

The same day I saw the latest test results on the Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 ATX Pro. I called my web dealer back to cancel the Nikon order and could find only one ATX Pro DX lens locally.

After making calls around the country and learning how hot this lens was selling, I drove to the dealer and bought the Tokina ATX at almost half the price of the Nikkor 12-24mm F4 DX.

Now using the ATX all I can say is it looks sharper than any of my super zooms by Nikon. The ATX is simply outstanding in every way. Color quality and resolution are a real blow out!

Nikon or Canon owners, if you do not have a Tokina 11mm-16mm ATX Pro Dx, you are missing a real photographic bloody good show.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

Great lens for landscape and architecture work. Zoom range is limited, but just enough to get shadows out of the frame if necessary. While I shoot most at 11mm I do find I use the entire range.

Lens is exceptionally sharp, even wide open. I have no optical quality complaints except that it is a bit prone to flare.

Focus is quick and consistent, a bit noisy being a screw drive, but good.

It adds a whole new dimension to your photography!Lens construction is great and the 2.8f is such a nice feature. Lens isn't very sharp at 2.8, but distortion is pretty low. great wedding, night, and landscape lens. This lens always seems to be sold out here, but put in your order anyway.[...]

I tried the Nikon 12-24mm and was not happy so I returned it after two days then tried this one after reading all the reviews. This is one of the best ultra wide available today and was blown away on sharpness. I have the 24-70mm Nano and this Tokina is close enough to the image quality. Unfortunately I only used it for only 3 weeks and sold it since I just upgrade my d300 to d700 and I don't want to use my d700 on DX mode. I did not intend to make money but it actually sold higher than when purchased from Adorama due to high demand. Check out the sample picture and notice the details on the distant tree as you view actual size (unaltered image).

I use this lens for landscapes and for whatever else I need a wide angle for. This lens is tack sharp with only a little bit of blurring in corners at 11mm f/2.8 on my D300. Like all of Tankina lenses it is a well made heavy duty lens. If you need a wide angle lens don't pay 2x the amount for the Nikon 12-24 f/4, your just wasting you money for the Nikon name and advertizing.

The lens lives up tot he hype. I purchased this lens for a trip to Egypt that i will be taking. I have only been using the lens for a few days but already the pictures that it produces are fabulous. The 2.8 aperture rating really pays off for low light photos and the extreme wide zoom is great for sweeping landscape photography. Add to this the fact that you can focus 1 ft away from the subject you can get some really stunning close ups as well. I would recommend this lens to anyone looking for a versatile super wide angle zoom.

I read many reviews of this lens and thought very hard about getting such a specialized, short focus range wide angle lens. The main deciding factor was the relative speed which is of advantage for interior, architectural photography. The lens is solid, smooth and the focusing is fast and silent. Very impressive.

I personally use this lens for the perspective in weddings and for landscape work. Had to replace some stolen equipment and went with DX instead of FX, which I used to have, but my deductible wouldn't allow me to get what I had, so replaced the D700 with D90 and went with this lens versus 14-24mm. I'm quite impressed with it: very close focus, snappy AF, easily corrected distortion, good build quality for 1/3rd of the price.

The only reason this lens doesn't get 5 stars from me is that it doesn't autofocus on my D40. It's not supposed to though. Fortunately the D40 has a focus indicator built in.
I love the wide angle, and the perception it creates in the picture. Zoom ring is solid and won't move on its own, and the focus ring works great for me; I just leave it in the manual position for my D40.

Fine lens for the cost. Slightly soft @ 11 MM at F 2.8 aperture. To get similar contrast and color saturation as my Nikkor 18-200 MM lens, I had to exposure compensate minus 1 f-stop in sunny photos. The results were acceptable, but not quite equal to the Nikkor lens regardless of the similarity of the histograms for each lens. The majority of photos are tack sharp. This lens is a great value!

Comments about Tokina Tokina 11mm - 16mm F/2.8 ATX Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.:

Very useful ultra-wide on Digital. Makes a good companion to your 18-200mm VR, should be the only two lenses you need the majority of the time. I use it on my D80 and get great results. The zoom range is limited, but a step forward or back will usually get you the framing you want, and the f/2.8 aperature is great. Even at f/2.8 the depth of field seems very good, stopped down I'm sure it's fantastic (haven't really used it on a tripod yet). The lens is a bit heavy, but it seems very solidly made.

I really like the focusing ring, you pull it back towards you one click for manual focusing, and just click it back forward for AF again. Very quick, no switches to remember to set back. The zoom ring is tight enough that you don't get any creep, but moves redily.

Don't put on more than one filter at 11mm or you'll mechanically vignette, you have to zoom to 13 or 14mm with stacked filters.

Softness at corners are present at 11mm f/2.8 with my D300 but at other apertures it's sharp, better than the Nikkor 12-24mm f2.8 which is half the cost! Do yourself a favor and get one ASAP!
