I picked this up as an "more affordable" alternative to the Tokina 11-16 (amazing lens) before a summer on the road/in air. The only bad thing to me is wondering what I could have done with the 11-16, because this is a gorgeous piece. Fast, bright, quiet - a bit of a tank, but in the best way possible. This is the best ultra/wide I've seen for the money and good measure outside it's price. Wow!
Comments about Tokina Tokina 12mm - 24mm f/4 PRO DX II Autofocus Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras.:
Having researched between this lense, canon, tamron and sigma I decided on this lense. Sure the Canon L is probably slightly better and the 2.8 version has better bokeh, but you're paying a much higher price for those features also.
I decided on this lense from reading several independant reviews on photography sites. For landscape photography this lense really shines. Don't go all the way to either end of the focal range, but this goes without saying on almost all lenses.
When used with an aperature of 8 or 11, the detail is excellent. Color and sharpness is great also.
Oh, the build quality is second to none also. Sure the lense is heavy, but I prefer a heavier lense. When taking photographs it feels better than having a lightweight lense attached.
Overall I would give it a 4.8/5.0 just because everything has a slight room for improvement.
I would definately recommend this to anybody wanting a fast, sharp and sturdy lense for landscape photography.
This lense is not for the following.
- weddings
- portraits
- wildlife
- sports
Get a telephoto lense for those.

I got this lens for my cannon 7D. Wow what a lens.As soon as i recived it I went on a 6 day trip to the eastern serrias and yosimite. I shot everything from wide vistas, waterfalls, river, flowers and night shots. This len is tack sharp everywhere even at wide open. I also got the tiffen 77mm wa filter kit UV/CP/ENHNCG. I,m was a little leay of kit stuff but adorama sale person talk me into it and what the heck if you don,t like it you can allways return it. Anyways I tried and tried to find fault with these filters but could find none. One thing you will need to get is a slip on cap because the filters have no front threads . Adorama sell one cheap($6) and works great. So yes if you want a track sharp wide angle this is it.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 12mm - 24mm f/4 PRO DX II Autofocus Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras.:
Got this for its wide angle purposes. Was somewhat disappointed with the output inconsistency, due to its "autofocus" being the only option. The lens doesn't have a focus problem per se, because some photos turn out very sharp and crispy, at a ratio of 1 to 10 though. That's not too optimistic compared to other lenses. If you get a Tokina, make sure it has manual focus. It'll impact the output consistency!
Distortion is huge, but that's compared to regular lenses, so I guess that's irrelevant.
The build is great! it looks like only the nuclear war could damage it. Due to this fact it's heavy.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 12mm - 24mm f/4 PRO DX II Autofocus Zoom Lens for Canon EOS Digital SLR Cameras.:
I got the Tokina 12-24 AT-X ProDx II lens after months of reading reviews and trying lenses at brink-and-mortar stores. I couldn't be more satisfied. The ProDXII is an upgrade from Tokina's 12-24 AT-X ProDx in that it has improved multi-coatings to reduce flare and ghosting. I have taken about two dozen shots in three different locations with the lens hood off and the sun in frame trying to get it to ghost and flare. I have only been able get flare in one image. The improved multi-coating delivers results as promised.
I also checked for potential darkening of the corners with filters attached. At 12mm I got no darkening at all with one filter. I did get darkening at 12mm after double stacking a circular polarizer and a warming filter. Zooming out to 13mm brightened the corners back up. This lens can handle any single filter at its widest with no problems at all.
The push-pull AF/MF selector has taken some getting used to after flicking a switch for so long but the lens is accurate enough on AF that I've only needed to switch to manual for a small handful of shots. Even then it was to get the effect I wanted - not because the lens couldn't find focus.
This lens is bright, sharp, clear, built like a tank, and delivers on every promise made by Tokina about its performance. I believe it is well worth the investment for weekenders, serious hobbyists, and pros alike.
