I needed to get really wide, but Canon EFS 10-22mm was more than I wanted to spend, even though it gets great reviews. One thing I love about the Tokina 12-24mm 4 is that the focus is quiet. Not USM quiet, but far more quiet (and faster) than the Sigma 20-40mm 2.8 that I have.

I bought this lens for my Cabinet business, to shoot pics for our website, and show room walls. I read a lot of reviews on this, and a lot of other lenses. The Tokina came with pretty strong reviews as being a great lens. I would have to agree that it is a very good lens, and seeing that is a lot less expensive as some of thte other glass out there, it is a bargain for sure.

I just got this lens last week, and I already love it. Sharp, fast focus, solid feel to it. I read a lot about it, and everything I read was true, except the part where people say it is hard to install. It does feel a little snug, compared to all my other lenses, but it still isn't an issue at all with me.

Great lens. A little soft at the edges when shooting wide open at 12mm. That's to be expected from a 20mm equivalent (and who shoots at f4 anyway?). From f8 and above its very, very sharp all the way across. Quick focusing and solid, professional construction make this lens a keeper.

I am an interior designer with many years behind the lense. I shoot all my own portfolio work and this lense has done a fabulous job. I can pick up everything in a room with very little distortion. I believe the quality of the images has helped to get my work published. The price is modest cosidering the professional quality result.

I was looking at a ultra wide angle and a zoom. Realized I couldn't afford what Canon offered, I'd have to choose one or the other and that'd would be a tough decision. So I decided to try third party and get both zoom and wide for a fair price.
This wide angle is a great lens for the money.
Sharp, well built.
While the Canon EF-S 10-22mm is a better lens, if you're on a budget you can't go wrong with Tokina 12-24.

I mostly use for deep fading portrait effect. Great depth of field, great sharpness, contrast and more impressivity to images!

This is a great piece of glass for the price. The auto-focus is whisper quiet and FAST. Color capture is stunning. I used it in the studio and on the street, on a 20D and 40D. One of the best additions I've made to my camera bag.

The write-ups were right spot on. It works like advertised. I would recommend a good, solid tripod/ballhead with spirit levels. And if you have it on in a crowded location, be sure to get in close. I test used it for a week on my Nikon D-200, and it will be something I'm sure I won't leave behind on photo shoots.

From all of the reviews I read, Canon (10-22mm) had a slight edge on image quality with Sigma and Tokina neck and neck for a close second. I chose the Tokina because it was [$] cheaper than the Canon and was reviewed as having better build quality than Sigma. I've gotten great results so far, coupled with my Digital Rebel. The only con I've noticed would be purple fringing along some highlight edges. Overall, I'm happy with it.

Let me be clear, this is a GREAT lens. That said, you'd better have a strong shoulder and plenty of real estate in your camera bag for this thing. I love the extreme wide angle it provides on a digital EOS body, but just cannot get away from its size and weight. I sometimes find myself wanting to leave it at home when trying to pick 'n' choose from various accessories to pack with me. Ultimately however, I always wind up taking it with me because of its incedible sharpness, clarity and resolution. I never regret, once I'm home and look at the results, having lugged this monster around with me.If I could find a more compact version would I buy it? [...] yes! Could you pry this lens away from my cold, dead shutter finger? [...] no!

This is a very strong build lens. I love it for it ultra wide angle and hardly uses it above 15mm. The same goes for aperture. It works very well at F4 but I hardly use it below F13.
You have to get used to the push/pull MF/AF-switch but since almost all of my shots are done using a tripod in MF it is a minor detail.
You have to watch out for flares but the included hood takes care of most. CA can be a problem at 12-15mm but is easily fixed in PS.
Overall the best lens in my small line-up. Would by a new one right away if mine broke (although the build quality suggest that it won't happen!)
