Comments about Tokina Tokina 16mm - 50mm F/2.8 Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:
I've tried three of these lenses from two different stores. The first was inhabited by ghost, the second wasn't any better, and I just returned the third one today. I wanted to like this lens, it is constructed much better than my Nikon 18-70 and it balances good on the D200, but all of these lenses had optical problems. The chromatic aberrations were terrible & very noticeable at all focal lengths & all apertures (f2.8 - f8 were the apertures I tested the lenses at). It blurred & distorted the corners so much I just couldn't keep the lens. And 50mm f2.8 wasn't anywhere near sharp in the center. It's a shame to build such a nice lens & put such poor optics in it.

THIS LENS IS GOOD FOR THE PRICE. BUT GET USE TO IT. I TOOK MORE 3000 PIXS WITH THIS LENS. 50% CLEAR AND 50% BLURRY. I DO NOT LIKE IT WHEN I FIRST GOT. NOW I KNOW HOW TO USE IT, AND I LIKE IT.IF YOU TAKE WITHIN 3 FEET, THE PICTURE WILL BE CLEAR AT THE NEAREST POINT ONLY. THIS IS GOOD FOR CLOSE UP SHOT. BUT IF YOU WANT A GOOD PICTURE YOU HAVE TO STAY AWAY FROM 3 FEET. HOPE THIS HELPS THE PEOPLE WHO COMPLANT ABOUT THE BLURRY PICTURES.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 16mm - 50mm F/2.8 Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:
This is a great walk-around lens for street photography and for landscape shots. The lens is built like a tank and has great glass in it. The auto/manual focus clutch is wonderful! If you could only have one lens, this one wouldn't be a bad choice at all. I use it a lot.
I'm not a fan of the extending zoom action.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 16mm - 50mm F/2.8 Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:
I got this lens for social events & weddings to use with my Nikon D-300. I bought this lens, based on the quality of their 12-24mm which I use for my architectural work.
I needed a fast, wide to tele zoom lens, at a reasonable price, and found this lens to feel solid and acceptably sharp (but slow focusing) until I tried shooting in low light. As soon as I shot at f-5.6 and below, this lens became quite a disappointment and un-sharp. My Nikon 24-85 f-2.8-4 is a much better lens. I also found the 50mm end much sharper than at the wide end, but still too short. Tokina should have made this lens zoom to at least 90mm. I had written to Tokina about my disappointment but never heard back from them.
This lens is not for critical work

Comments about Tokina Tokina 16mm - 50mm F/2.8 Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:
Shooting mostly portraits and weddings, I need a lens that can fulfill many jobs. Everything from group shots after a ceremony, to close head and shoulders shots of a commercial client. Its effective focal range makes it a main component in my bag, actually it hasn't come off my camera since purchase. The lens' wide-open 2.8 aperture is an advantage for shooting in lower lighting situations, however for most of my work it isn't necessary.
Its focal range may be wide, but there is no apparent vignetting even with a normal 77mm UV filter, so your factory/after market lens cap still will stay rock steady.
With solid built construction, and good quality glass, I wouldn't be the first professional photographer to stand by this product or any of TOKINA's lenses.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 16mm - 50mm F/2.8 Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:
The lens is unique. It is heavy and large. Tough, but the front zooms out A LOT MORE than I expected. It is hazy/unsharp at 2.8. Usable, but just not really sharp. In Photoshop it is easily correctable. Color is nice. "Bokeh" is really nice, if you are into those things(much nicer than Nikkors in the same range). Focus is fast, quiet and consistent.I returned mine because of the size (VERY long when in tele mode) and weight and went with the Tamrom, which is better for my ends. The price of the Tokina is sort of high too. That softness is not helpful, but I could live with that. If you are willing to carry and pay for such a lens, I would just go with a used Nikon's 17-55mm/2.8 for extra [$], which is clearly better overall!

Comments about Tokina Tokina 16mm - 50mm F/2.8 Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:
I love wide angles, and this lens is the best
"normal wide zoom" there is right now. It is wider than the competition and is just as sharp (if not sharper) as lenses that cost 3 or 4 times more.
I just wish that the front part of this lens did not extend, it would have made it even stronger and more balanced. But since I mostly use it on the wide side doesn't bother me much. The boke` of this lens is beautiful!!

Comments about Tokina Tokina 16mm - 50mm F/2.8 Pro DX Autofocus Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras:
I have owned the lens for 6mo. I like it a lot. Before I had the kit lens 18-70mm. This one is much sharper. The lens is built very well. The focus is quick even it uses camera motor to focus. I am very happy with it.
