Comments about Tokina Tokina 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 AT-X Pro D Auto Focus Zoom Lens for Canon EOS:
I bought this lens when I was in New York from [...]. Not quite happy as I am not able to get the pin sharp image I am looking for when taking birds pictures at 350/400mm. The details of the birds are not clear.

Comments about Tokina Tokina 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 AT-X Pro D Auto Focus Zoom Lens for Canon EOS:
I bought this lens because it was a 400mm and I wanted that extra range for shooting sports. I have a fixed 17mm and a 10-17mm zoom from Tokina which I've been very satisfied with when shooting landscapes so I decided to save a buck and see if the 400mm zoom could perform in fast paced shooting situations at work. It is a heavy lens but I like the heavy duty construction. The problems I've experienced very often are SLOW! SLOW! SLOW! autofocus or out of focus shots. Manual focus can produce nice landscape shots but for fast paced sports it just doesn't cut it.

Have had the lens for about 2 weeks and I think it was a good purchase.1/2 the price of the closest Canon lens. Bit on the heavy side but I expected that I would need a tripod for most shots. It's not that it wont focus its just that it will get heavy to hold after a while. The zoom works great and haven't found any problem areas yet. the 400mm length realy lets you reach out there. Think I will still use my 28 - 135 canon as a walk around lens but this one will always kept handy for that special shot just a little to far away for the 135 length.
