Comments about Canon Canon Tripod Mount Ring B (B) for EF 100 f/2.8, Macro USM, MP-E65 f/2.8, EF 180 f/3.5L Macro USM Lens only.:

This tripod macro ring 'B' works well with the appropriate lenses but it does not fit the 100 mm f2.8 L IS lens, it's too big. The proper ring is the Tripod Macro Ring 'D'. Don't make the same mistake I did and believe the recommendations or you too will have an extra ring.

Comments about Canon Canon Tripod Mount Ring B (B) for EF 100 f/2.8, Macro USM, MP-E65 f/2.8, EF 180 f/3.5L Macro USM Lens only.:

The tripod foot faces the lens front. Locate the 4 Closed grooves on the mounting area of the lens barrel. Mark these 4 Closed grooves on the side of the lens barrel towards the lens/camera mount with pencil. Note the 4 splines in side shim ring- to fit closed grooves on lens barrel - align these so that the shim gap is at 9:00 (red dot on ring), when looking at front of lens and shim will snap into place. The 4 bayonet pins on shim ring go towards the lens front, they must ALL ALIGN with the 4 notches in the T ring. Carefully align and insert the 4 bayonet pins into the 4 notches of T ring. (you must rotate lens/shim assembly until all pins align- only 1 position out of 4 will match up properly) Carefully press the assemblies together and you will have a smoothly rotating assembly. Rotate lens in T ring to suit camera orientation lock and shoot.

I use this with a macro lens on focusing rails with a tripod. The ease to switch to vertical is a real plus.

Not a RINGer-

Comments about Canon Canon Tripod Mount Ring B (B) for EF 100 f/2.8, Macro USM, MP-E65 f/2.8, EF 180 f/3.5L Macro USM Lens only.:

I love len's with rings. As an avid tripod user, it allows me to switch from vertical to horizontal images with a minimum of pain. When I receintly bought the Canon Macro Lens [...], I also ordered the ring [...]. The ring does not turn smoothly as the rings on my other Canon and Sigma lenes do. I think plastic is great when used properly. It does not fit this application as used. Advice from a retired product development engineer. If you want a short Macro, try some other manufacturer. In most cases I have gone back to my old 180 Macro. Its a pleasure to use and keeps me out of the flower beds.

poor design makes this difficult to use especially when in a hurry to change positioning on a tripod. The ring is not locked onto the lense and is very stiff to rotate and often falls out of the housing
