The Canon 77mm Snap-On Lens Cap is necessary for the canon 400mm f5.6 telephoto lens. A third party lens cap will not fit because the hinges on the inside of the cap are slightly different in shape. The lens cap does the job, which is to cover the lens. The only con is that it cost [$]!

I lost my first cap [...], but when i was using the lens (100-400) i had to remove everytime the lens cover, but with the original i could put the cap on without removing the cover. Recently i bought a new canon lens cap to make my job easier
