Although this is a small, inexpensive and relatively non-descript item, it is critical to preserving a very expensive lens. Without this lens cap, you're exposing your expensive lens to dust, dirt, water and other harmful agents that will, at best, ruin your photographic results and, at worst, damage your lens beyond repair. It's a small price to pay for big protection.
