I've gone the knock-off route at roughly two-thirds the cost and found the product substandard, failed to fit properly. Fearing I would do damage to a pricy lens I bought the Canon Hood, a perfect fit, quality materials. Don't waste your money, buy the real thing and eliminate the grief.

I bought this hood for lens of canon 50mm 1.4F.
As you know, lens motor for auto-focusing is not durable. It is easy to break it because lens end protrudes when auto-focusing. So I am using hood for protecting motor of lens. Even though it has poor design, all of aspects is good. So, I am satisfied.

Nice hood, keeps stray light out of the lens and in my case, rain drops. Also if you use a polarizeing filter you can not get fingers into the hood to turn the filter. With out getting fingerprints all over the glass.

Typical non-L Canon accessory...this should be included with the Canon 50mm lens. Consequently, Canon gets a star removed for the extra cost, otherwise this is a fine product. It works as advertised and should be considered as required especially when around bright point sources of light--the 1.4 is wide open compared to most other non-pro lenses.

Everything is great with this product. It is very needed...I had a lot of lens flare before I purchased this product. Since I have been using the lens hood, my pictures are coming out so much better due to cutting out the flare. Highly recommend.

The 50mm/1.4 definitively needs a lens hood more so to prevent flares than for protection. I've had some bad experiences with flares on this lens. This one does an excellent job of preventing flares.
