When wife wants you in the picture with everyone else at a gathering, you use this little cutie.

Use your tripod or other safe camera location, turn on the remote option and take a pic with it. Review the pic and adjust, take another pic, till satisified with composition. Then sit or stand and talk with everyone and occasionally click at the camera.

But you must be withing 20 feet and within 15 minutes of setting. At least this is on my camera, a Nikon D40.

At least momma is happy for that one shot a year you are included.

My biggest dissapointment is that Nikon put the sensor on the front of the camera only. A second,back side second sensor would make it more useful. Distance of activation requires you to be close to the camera, but hey, there are other synch triggers available if you are into that much remote work.

Worked great on my D90 and was fine on our shop D3000. Too bad the D3100 looses this functionality. Nikon must've looked over at Canon and realised that they haven't bothered to enable their remote on their cheap cameras, so dropped it on the D3100. Stupid move Nikon, this remote is really useful!

I like how small and simple this remote is; one button in a small compact package that is incredibly easy to use. I use this for family portraits when I'm included so I don't have to keep returning to the camera to set the timer.

Another great use for it is long exposures at sunset/rises, star trails, and night photography in general. Since the max. exposure time on my D90 is <30" without using bulb mode this definitely extends my exposure possibilities. My only complaint (and why it didn't receive 5 stars) is that on my camera the exposure time is limited to 30 minutes (shorter star trails) wheres the wired remote has no limit.

One of the least expensive Nikon accessories there is and it is a must have. I can't count many times this little accessory has come in handy.

Thankfully it's worked with all my cameras I've had, including my D7000.

Worked perfectly the first time I used it. Wouldn't work at all the next time. I tried changing the batteries checking the lighting etc. It did work again the next time I tried. Then not. If it would work consistently I would love it. It is great for taking pictures of my 2 year and 9 month old... but only if it works.

It does exactly like it is supposed to. Press the button and it takes a picture. Only issue is the range of the remote. They may be more of an issue of the pickup on the camera. Sometimes I have to click numerous times and move arm around until the picture is snapped. I often use it for long exposure shots were I want to keep camera shake to a minimum. Seems to be well made and inexpensive.

I haved buy this remote control with another things to my D90, but it's so useless... this remote control is only for one thing: shot. And for this operation, the timer is enough... Another thing: it's infrared, but at many angles this can't work. As a infrared ontrol, the signal may reflect at wall, floor, etc, but it doesnt. Maybe a "xing-ling" non-official nikon remote control can make it better, and with more functions.

Super-cheap, and does the job perfectly. Take note that activating the remote will *not* perform autofocus, it appears you need a wired remote release for that functionality.

This remote works great despite some limitations.
The range could be a bit further, and the line of sight can be a little fustrating, but as far as functioning prpoerly it does what it is supposed to do. Nice to have doing macro and long exposures.

I use this to reduce camera shake with long lenses. It's a good substitute for the old wire releases, but with a bulky lens in front of a D90 you need to reach around the camera aim from the top left and aim well.

The ML-L3 is quite small and extremely light. Small carrying case fits on camera strap could have a more "positive" closure to prevent accidental loss. Easy to use... no issues so far.

I don't know if it's my D40 or this remote but you should point the remote to the camera relatively accurate for it to work. I think RF remote instead of infrared would be a better solution, but receiver is built in the camera and it's infrared.

Nice inexpensive remote. Worked right out of the box with the d90. I wish it had a wider range so I could trigger it from the side, reliably or from greater distances. This is not a major issue, since I can set a delay and move out of the way.

I did not give it a 5/5 because it is overpriced for being a featureless IR remote.

I found this product easy to use once I figured out how to set the camera to remot. I had never used a remote or cable release before. It is small so you can hide it in your hand if taking a selfportrait. Using the remote keeps the camera from shaking so that I got better photos. The only con to it is you have to be to the side or in front to use it. That is just a minute little problem though and can be easily worked around. I am impressed to say the least!

The remote idea is great. Few working parts and nothing to break, problem is that it is not dependable to actually take the photo when you press the button. Very frustrating on my first day out. At times it would run right along clicking picture after picture, and then fight with me to take any picture. And if I turned the camera to take portrait shots the whole deal lost its mind. no pictures at all. Using nikon d-60 and have no troubles with camera like that until using the remote.....If there are better remotes for this camera I would recommend them instead.

I use this all the time on my Nikon D50. It has two great uses for long exposures.

On exposures between 1/10 sec and 4 sec, it is important because it lets you take a photo without touching the camera. The act of applying pressure to the camera when pressing the shutter can be enough to add minor blur to a shot in that range. The ML-L3 lets you avoid that (if you really want to avoid any shake, your camera might also allow you to set the shutter lock-up after you compose the shot).

The second, and more important use, is for exposures exceeding 30 seconds. For some strange reason, Nikon requires that, for all bulb exposures, you have to hold down the shutter for the entire duration. This is a terrible way to do this because your hand will start to shake after a while of staying in the same places motionless. Can you imagine standing with your hand on the camera as motionless as possible for 15-30 minutes? That's what you'd have to do if you wanted to get those pretty star-trail photos. The ML-L3 lets you get around this... one click of the button to open the shutter, and another click of the button to close it.

Some people have reported problems when using it from behind the camera. My experience has been that it works either from in front or (somewhat)behind, but that it doesn't work effectively well from both sides of the camera. It works consistently when the remote is to the right of the camera.

It works fine for macro, which is how I am using it. I am not sure about distance from the camera.

Also, the camera menu must be set up correctly for the unit to function. Otherwise it does nothing. It would be better if it were possible to use the remote without having to make that menu setting change.

The remote is an amazing little piece of equipment and it certainly makes life easier. Opening the battery compartment can be a bit of a challenge at first, but fortunately, one does not have to change batteries all that often.

This remote is amazingly small and weighs next to nothing. It works like a charm and keeps you from running back and forth with the timer if you want to be in your own pictures.

The only possible concern would be that you'd lose the remote, since it's tiny and essentially weightless. Of course, if you're not the kind of person who loses your memory cards already, this won't be a problem for you.

Unlike my similar Olympus remote control which also controls zoom, this one just trips the shutter remotely. But that's all I want. And it has a good range, 5-6m, and allows me to stand a ways off to the side and even works when I fire it from behind the camera (If I am not too far away). A great accessory for group pictures to landscapes to macro work.

At first I was worried that it did not work. I put on the batteries and started pressing on the button but it did not work! I thought of going back to Adorama and ask for assistance. Then i thought of checking online on how to make the remote control and figured how to do it! Oh yeah, I never checked the manual of my camera just like everybody else. It's there, you have to press MENU, select on shooting mode and choose remote control---that's how to make it work!

It's tiny but I attached it to my keychain so I don't worry about losing it. But yeah, if one is not careful, it's easy to lose.

Works well and is worth the price for all those handsfree moment. Great for taking photos of yourself with your family. No more missing shots without us whose holding the camera!

For the price this is an absolute must have for anyone. If you're a photographer that already utilizes the tripod, why not take it a step further and just pick this little baby up for under 20 bucks? No more soft pictures from slight jitters or pressing the shutter too hard, it's very slim fits in the pocket and hides in the hand quite easily.

It works behind, over and under the camera up to several feet away, and out in front I've snapped pictures up to 16ft away consistently. If you care enough to use a tripod, take it one step further and pick up this affordable accessory, it's truly a must have for d40/x/60 users.

This thing works just as it is supposed to. Allows remote operation of the shutter to help steady macro and long exposure shots. While in Bulb/Time Shutter mode, the remote allows for up to 30 minute exposure times. One press opens the shutter and when you want to end the exposure, the second press closes the shutter. Very nice accessory to have! Also, the remote allow you walk out of range and do what you want while you time without having watch the camera for 30 minutes.

This remote is an awesome accessory to have! You have to set up your camera to use it, so don't freak out if it doesn't work when you open the box and point it at your camera. You can change your camera to remote shutter, then it works great. It is great when you need a group shot. It can used on my D60 in instant release, 2 second delayed release, and can also be used in Bulb Shutter mode to take exposures up to 30 minutes long. In this mode, the first press opens the shutter, then you can walk away or go wherever you want, then come back when you want to close the shutter and simply press it again and the shutter closes. Very nice piece of equipment. I have made some super-steady shots of the moon and of the stars and great detail with no movement at all thanks to the remote!

I've always enjoyed close-up photography and night-time photography. I began 50 years ago with tripod mounted 4x5 cameras and required a cable release because of the frequently long exposures. This accessory is taking the place of a cable-release on my newly acquired DSLR. The device has been very near the camera in all my applications thus far. So I can't really say anything about its range. In my application it has been totally satisfactory.

This remote works from almost any angle, and if the room is set up right even from behind the camera. In bulb mode you can click once to open and click again to shut. It's as easy as using the regular shutter button, and I've gotten it to work at distances much greater than what's advertized. I can even use it while it's completely inside my jeans pocket from over 6 feet away in a well lit room. Some people seem to complain that the range is terrible, maybe I just got a really good one, or one with a fresh battery. For [$] this remote can't be beat

This remote is only usable when directly in front of the camera which makes it useful only when taking self portraits. It also does not work consistently. The first few times I have used it the button had to be pressed several times before the camera would take the shot. Great idea it just needs some fine tuning. I'm still glad that it's an option.

The remote works fine. It does need to be aimed correctly and figuring that out when the camera is tilted on a tripod can take some getting used to.
I tend to misplace small items so I lose this

What is there to say. Press the button and take a picture. It's very small, lightweight and seems rather durable. The range I have experienced is 20-30'. The signal can bounce off walls which is nice when you're behind the camera.

Do yourself a favor though...buy two!

It works great if you've got you're camera set up on a Grizzly and you've shot and shot at him feeding on berries and your waiting for him to raise his head and look knarly at you. Then you can be all comfortable setting ready to press the button.

It is also good if your shooting Half Dome in Yosemite and your waiting for the clouds to clear just right. If you find yourself in a meadow doing just that, look around your feet, you may find my old ML-3. I think that is the last place I lost it. It is one hard item to keep track of.

For those of you who are the person who always take the pictures, you can now include yourself in the shot. No longer do you have to worry about the focus when using the timer, because you will be in the frame to focus on. Now I can take pictures and be in them as well. I recommend this for all users. I love it! The only drawback I had was I did not know how to place the camera in the remote mode. I use a D-50 and I must hold the timer button while I turn the thumb wheel. There are three settings, instant shot, a two second timer, and the ten second timer. Once I got started I could not stop.

You do not need to prefocus with this, unless you want to. If you are in autofocus mode when you press the button, it will autofocus and then release the shutter. I use it with a Nikon D50 and it works with immediate shutter release or timed release.

This is good for when you want to be in the photo, or have to trip the shutter from the front of the camera. It doesn't work so well standing behind the camera. If you are looking to stand behind the camera, you are best to get the corded remote. Use with a D80 is simple, just put the D80 in the remote mode, and press the button on the remote when you want the shutter to open!

I never cared for rushing to get into the shot using the timer on all my other cameras, therefore, I'm missing in many family photos. No more!!

Activating the D60 via a menu is a bit of a pain but worth the effort.

The delay feature is very useful, lets you fire the camera and get your hand with the remote out of sight.

I bought the remote because it seems a lot easier than setting the timer in order to get in family shots and sunrise/sunset shots. It has worked well, and the only complaint I would lodge is the lack of a sensor at the rear of the D-40. This hasn't been to much of a problem since the remote seems to work well from the side and allows me to stay out of the shot even when using a 14mm lens.

If you're like me, you always have a hard time getting someone to take your photograph. Or when they do, the pictures come out blurred or they capture you with your eyes closed.
This little remote changes all that. It allows you to snap the shutter whenever you want, without having to touch the camera. It's like having a third arm!
The only downside I see with it, is the fact that it's so small. It's comparable to the size of a picture key chain, which makes the probability of losing it fairly high. It also increases the risk of it being stepped on or broken. But if you're aware of these things, and make it a point to keep track of it, then you should have no problems. I think it is a must-have for Nikon users.

You can't go wrong with this product, it's so cheap and does exactly what is advertised. I purchased this remote to use with my D40. A nice handy tool that allows shooting self-portraits from tripod and/or avoid extra shaking on long exposures. Works like a champ. Comes with a battery, don't buy a spare one.

I found the Nikon ML-L3 to work very well it is very small in size so it is easy to hold in your hand as you prepare for a shoot. I have only used it a few times thus far partly because I forget I have the remote as I have only had it in my bag a few weeks.

I purchased the Nikon ML-3L remote release to obtain a suitable means of tripping the camera's shutter (I own a Nikon D50) for available light exposures with long shutter times.

So far, I only used it for family pictures to allow the photographer (me!) to get in the photo. It really is an easy accessory to use and works extremely well!

I look forward to trying it out for timed exposures.

I love this little devil! The moment I pulled this out of it package it worked flawlessly. In doors the remote can work 360 with the camera, but outdoors in bright conditions the remote seemed to work only from the front. But besides that I can take steady shots on my tripod with out hitting the func button and I can now use the bulb setting. I love this little devil.

This is a rare electronics product that is simple, straightforward, inexpensive, and highly functional.

The ML-L3 is a very small, thin, lightweight transmitter with a single button on the top. It works with recent Nikon Digital SLRs including the popular D40, D50, D70, and D80 models.

To control your camera with the ML-L3, you need to tell your camera that you are going to use the remote. The settings vary by Nikon model and are found in your camera's user manual. In my D50, it was about as simple as toggling to timer mode.

Since buying the ML-L3 remote, I now use it for 100% of my tripod shots. Unlike a cable release, it gives me complete freedom of movement, and I can be 100% certain that I'm not causing any tripod movement when I use it.

It's also small enough that I can keep it in my hand while doing other things like adjusting the camera or changing camera settings. In my camera bag, it takes up little more space than a spare SD card.

I love the fact that I can choose to combine the wireless shutter release and timer modes. For example, by setting for wireless remote combined with a 2-second shutter delay, I can take group- or self-portraits without having every shot feature me pointing a remote control at the lens!

If you have a Nikon DSLR and a tripod, you have to get yourself one of these.

Took my Nikon D80, tripod, ML-L3 Remote with me on vacation in the Turks & Caicos Islands. The remote worked perfectly. Took great pictures that would not have been taken otherwise. There is no need for instructions as the camera manual explains how to set,(very simple). I read some of the negative comments with bewilderment. Yes, it does have a range of approximately 18-20 ft. & yes the sensor is in the front, and yes it is lightweight but these are the same features that you will find quite enjoyable in many situations on vacation when you will wish you had a remote with you. Experiment with it, you will have a blast. Well worth the price!

I wish I could time the exact delay beteween the time my thumb makes contact with the button and the time my Nikon D40 snaps the photo. I bet it would be .00002 seconds. This thing is so fast, it blew all my expectations away.

I expected something clunky, but much to my surprize it fit into the palm of my hand, easily hidden if you're including yourself in the frame.

I was very amazed by all that you can get with such an small object. I use it to take pictures with my NIkon D80 and it is the best thing I have ever used, don't complicate your life you cable releases just use this wonderful wireless remote control.
You won't regret. The price is excellent.

I was able to figure out how to setup my D40 with the remote in about 10 seconds. It's in the shooting mode menu along with continuous and self-timer mode

Great for any applications in which a photographer would normally need a corded remote. Being wireless, it becomes that much better.

My experience with the Nikon ML-L3 IR Remote Control Transmitter for the D-40 was a very positive one. It worked just as I expected it would.

My only comment would be that someone who bought the ML-L3 and didn't have the Nikon camera user manual handy might be at a loss as to how to operate it.

May I suggest that when shipping the Remote you also send a brief enclosure stating the camera setting required to use it, and other pertinent data...

We are using it for long shutter speeds in the church during the cermony. Keeps the camera from shaking and allowing many more usable shots!

The most complicated part of this was that it does not come with instructions. On the other hand, when I reviewed my D70S manual, it explained its use very clearly, and this has been an asset ever since. I can leave my camera set up on a tripod, and this will reliably trip the shutter from about 20 feet away.

I bought this remote because my D70 doesn't have a cable release socket and I thought it would be a good substitute. However the IR sensor is on the front so you have to be in front of the camera to use it - just the thing for including yourself in family group pictures. Just be careful not to lose it - it's so small.

Does all it was touted to do. I would give it five stars except that the infra-red sensor is on the front of the camera, and if you need to stand behind the camera you must rig a small reflector in front of the sensor--easy to do with a 1" by 2" piece of aluminum foil and a little masking tape

I wanted to buy this remote so much, thought it would be a cool idea. So I went to the Nikon agent and before buying it I asked if I could actually try it. So I did. You have to point directly at the camera in order to be able to use it. And it has to be at a certain angle, right in front of the camera, which doesn't really make sense unless you use it with the timer, which is possible (on my D80). I'm talking about a situation where you want to be in the picture you are taking. That's the only situation I thought I would use it in anyways. But then again, if you're going to use the timer anyways, then you might as well forget about the remote. I didn't buy it.
