First, a disclaimer - I got this bubble level as part of a much larger "package" which included a tripod and other small accessories (i.e. I didn't purchase it as a stand-alone product).

This product has two drawbacks: (1) it's not super accurate (understandable, because it's small); (2) it can be mounted to the camera in either lying flat or "pointing up". If mounted flat, it has a low profile (and so won't easily be broken off), but will work only for pictures taken in a "landscape" (horizontal) format. For leveling the camera in a vertical format, the bubble level needs to be mounted "pointing up" (and when mounted this way it will also work for horizontal pictures), but in this mounting mode it seems like it would be very easy to break it off by inadvertently bumping it.

The latter concern can be addressed by only installing the level when needed, but that means repeatedly installing and removing the level - which involves rubbing against the hotshoe contacts. I would be worried long term about damaging these contacts.

For these reasons, I don't use my bubble level, even though it was "free".

When I order this item the photo shows a square level with 3 levels. What was sent was an oblong with two levels. After I talk to return department, I was told I would be sent a RMA which I never was sent. This level does not stay on Canon Camera.

Don't get fooled by the photo. It's a double bubble level, not a tri-bubble.
As a double, it's ok but not super accurate.

Don't believe the picture on the Adorama web page, which shows this having three levels in one plastic cube. As pictured, you can mount in on the camera and it will allow you to level the camera, without moving the level, whether you are in landscape or portrait orientation. However (as the name but not the picture implies) this is the common type of level with two bubbles only, so you have to remove it and then place back in the hotshoe if you change camera orientation. I already had two of that type of level and wanted one I could leave in the hotshoe and not have to move. Adorama agreed to let me return for refund, but wasn't worth the bother for [$] price I paid - I'll have it in case I lose one of the others. Adorama always seems to be helpful to the customer. BUT THEY SHOULD CHANGE THE PICTURE TO SHOW WHAT THE ITEM REALLY IS!

I had purchased a rectangular spirit level from another source and found it inaccurate. The shoe was too small to fit snugly into the mount on my Canon 5D MkII so when I saw the image of the cube shaped level on the Adorama web site I thought I'd give it another try. I was disappointed to get exactly the same rectangular item as I already had in a different package. Neither level agrees with the contractors angle locator/"universal protractor plumb & level" I've been placing across the front of the lens filter nor with each other!
I shoot hundreds of art works a month, mostly framed paintings and prints. Having the image accurately squared up before I make the exposure saves a lot of time rather than making post exposure corrections in Photoshop. I guess I'm stuck with the bulkier but accurate tool I've been using as these others are useless. You're better off going to a hardware store and getting a pocket size unit.

it's an easy to use level that gets the job done. i like it well enough. it does just what i thought it would do. i glance at it when i set up my camera on a tripod to make sure everything is reasonably level.

I was torn between this, and getting a tripod with a built-in level. Then I realized that a built-in unit levels the tripod, and not necessarily the camera. The spirit level is what I consider to be a hidden, but necessary purchase. You won't know you need it until you need it (if that makes sense), but you'll be oh so glad you have it.

I checked on other brands that were certainly more expensive and decided to buy 3 of these - 2 for myself and one for a gift. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and performance. One drawback that I've read about is the propensity for these (all brands) to fall off the camera if it's tilted backwards. I can see that happening, but if you know this ahead of time, you just need to be more careful and take it off before moving the camera. I bought these for landscape photography and this is almost necessary if not absolutely necessary - especially if you are doing panoramas and HDR. They fit my Canon 30D, 50D, and 5D MKII perfectly. I'll buy this again if I lose one and I'll recommend this to everyone.

I use this little bubble level a lot. Don't know how I got by without it before. I use it on Nikon D40, D90, D300, D700 and D3 cameras. It slides in to the flash shoe quickly and easily. I ended up buying 3 of them for multiple camera setups so I don't have to switch from camera to camera. Sure there are more expensive and accurate levels. For my imaging needs this level has the required accuracy and does the job very well. I have surveying equipment with very accurate bubble levels and I don't need anywhere close to that level of accuracy for imaging work with cameras. This level is well designed, priced right and will serve me well for all my imaging needs. Adorama has made an excellent, inexpensive product of good quality that works well!

I have a problem keeping my landscape shots level. I attended a worshop and the istructor introduced me to the use of a bubble level and have used it since. Now I do not have to spend time post processing to staighten my images. I will never leave home without it.

I waited a bit to write this as I am very inexperienced. I am using this on a Canon G9 and Manfrotto 190XProB tripod and 3D Jr. camera Head. Once I figured out the orientation into the hot shoe of the camera, all else followed easily. You can mount the spirit level vertically or horizontally in the hot shoe. I would buy this again.

Excellent addtion to the tripod/ballhead spirit levels; easy to place, remove, read and use.
Slight real estate problem if you use a flash, as it uses the external flash support - no big deal though.

A very simple, reliable device that is very useful for shooting landscapes, especially panos. It is small and very easy to lose in the field. The only reason I gave it a lower rating is that the price seems high for a simple device that is easy lose.

Easily keeps horizons level in both horizontal and vertical formats. Levels in 2-dimensions - side to side which keeps the horizon level, and front to back, which ensures the horizon stays level as you pan. I would have given the product 5 stars, but my first one slipped out of the hot shoe unnoticed and was lost as I was moving my camera on tripod in the field. A slightly tighter fit would have prevented this (as would better attention on my part.)
