This accessory attaches to the back of the Kata pack for carrying a tripod. Now for some simple physics: since it is attached farthest from your back, its position provides the greatest leverage for a heavy tripod to impose on the upper torso. In other words, it pulls the upper pack shoulder straps back due to the weight of the tripod acting at such a distance. However, it does secure the tripod. I just wouldn't want to use it to carry a really heavy tripod any substantial distance. I can't understand why they made this accessory since the Kata is such an extraordinarily well-designed photo pack of the highest quality. I use it only on light-weight tripods - where it's just adequate to the task.

A very useful attachment, in our case, securing a lightweight Manfrotto tripod on a Kata 3N1-10 sling bag. No interference on the sling action or quickdraw accessibility of the bag. It does slightly impede access to loading up the bag when the tripod is in place. Too much velcro fastener on the top securing loop that wraps around the bag's carrying handle, has seen the polymer material of the bag's carrying handle fray within two weeks of use. Resourceful Kata designers/engineers should look into this. We fixed it by making up a small poly-material wrapper to protect the handle before attaching the top securing loop. For under US$20.00 though, it cannot be faulted.
