Plastic is not real heavy duty but love the idea it can cover my camera and lens. Great price for sure!

Comments about Op/Tech Op/Tech 18" SLR Rainsleeve for Digital & Film Cameras with Lenses up to 7" Diameter, 18" Long.:
Being in a tropical climate, Hawaii is known for random rain showers. For event photographers/videographers, a rainsleeve is a must have if you plan on protecting your gear.
The Op/Tech rainsleeve is small enough to fit in my pocket and easily covers my gear in seconds. The draw string around the front of the lens works well, but a rubber band will help seal it a little better. Control dials and buttons are easily accessed but need a bit of practice to compensate for the lack of tactile feel the rainsleeve adds. The viewfinder hole is handy, but takes a bit of time to align and fit the eye cup over.
Overall, it does a great job for the price you pay.

Comments about Op/Tech Op/Tech 18" SLR Rainsleeve for Digital & Film Cameras with Lenses up to 7" Diameter, 18" Long.:
I am old school -- my only cameras are Minolta 35mm's fronted with that amazing Minolta glass! Anyway, I needed a rain cover that would allow me to view through a viewfinder, not an LCD screen; and I didn't want to view through a layer of plastic. This sleeve has a little hole for this purpose; and the eye cup slips over it and keeps the sleeve in place.
And I'm able to access/operate the buttons, etc. of my camera with very little difficulty.
I wish they made a smaller version for shorter lenses, but this works fine with my 70-210mm beercan.
Obviously I am not a pro, and so I purchased this for use during a "typical" rainy or snowy day in the city, i.e., no torrential downpours in rainforests or extreme blizzard conditions in the arctic -- I didn't need one of those high falutin sleeves that cost in the three figures. Thankfully, I found this option and it works like a charm me.

I have to work in any kind of weather so when the rain comes I'm ready and work dosen't stop. It great because it dosen't take any space in my bag. It's thin so you have to be very careful not to breke it. Other then that it's a good product and I will get it again.

Comments about Op/Tech Op/Tech 18" SLR Rainsleeve for Digital & Film Cameras with Lenses up to 7" Diameter, 18" Long.:
I used this for an all day soccer tournament in heavy rain and found it a bit cumbersome for that...I needed to change out batteries and memory cards frequently so the excess material was a pain to deal with. However, for [$] it is much better than a plastic bag...other than condensation, my equipment was fairly dry. I think it would work well for a hike or a situation where you don't need to change lenses, cards or batteries. I can't compare it to a more expensive protector because I haven't used one. Also, because I had to go in and out of this one and use tape to keep it closed (shoot in vertical on a mono pod), I pretty much destroyed it after one use.

Ok, I wrote a review bout this right soon after I acquired it. ( Since I cannot edit my previous review, here is a update )
I can only recommend this for pinch hitter needs.
after having it slip off, and over, and around the end of my glass (The string end of the plastic) it was too much of a hassle)
The idea is sound tho,you just may want to carry some tape.preferably a gaffer type, with you, and tape the end of it down were it meets the lense hood. ( I went one further, bought myself 25 feet of 6mn platic sheet, which should last me for the next five years, taped that down to the front lense hood with gaffer tape, cut the little hole for the viewfinder, slid the viewfinder back on to hold the plstic in plase, and I was good to go.
Its a jury-rig, so it won't work for all folks, but thought for those who do, it may come in handy.
Another reason I "bag" my own now, is with this product, its a real pain to focus/do anything with your glass as it is totally wrapped. If the rain is coming up from the ground, that may be a good thing, but I digress..
I leave a bit of opening on the bottom of the lense so my hands can get a grip on it without moving the plastic off and breaking the seal, after a ALL day sports event, only had a couple drops sneak in round the viewfinder area..mostly condensation, which you will find will happen with any wrap of this nature..
final note:
If you use this product for more then five minutes at a time, tape it down!

I had to use the rainsleeve this past weekend when shooting a bike race. It kept the camera dry. I was using a short zoom (17-50) which made it a little difficult to zoom with the extra plastic on the front. Would proabably been easier if I had a longer lens. Bottom line is you can't beat the protection for the price.

Comments about Op/Tech Op/Tech 18" SLR Rainsleeve for Digital & Film Cameras with Lenses up to 7" Diameter, 18" Long.:
I used the rain sleeve while on a recent trip to Norway, where it rained most of the time. It worked quite well most of the time, although I put the camera away when the rain became really heavy. My Nikon D90 with a Nikkor 18-200 mm VR fit very well into the sleeve, and the hood helped protect the front of the lens together with the sleeve. All the controls on the body of of the camera were reasonably easy to reach. The greatest difficulty was presented by zooming the lens because I had to do with from outside the sleeve. The camera and lens stayed dry. I wouldn't use it to photograph during a tropical storm, but it works well in a regular rain, it is very light and compact, and very easy to put on the camera. I will buy more of these.
It's raining in Bergen, Norway

Comments about Op/Tech Op/Tech 18" SLR Rainsleeve for Digital & Film Cameras with Lenses up to 7" Diameter, 18" Long.:
I used this while shooting some photos at Summit Point Raceway. It rained like crazy. The sleeve did a great job of keeping my equipment (Canon 1000D with a 55-250mm IS lens), however, my Camera still locked up for a little while, I imagine due to rain. While the camera still stopped working, the sleeve worked decent enough, considering it was raining as hard as it was.

Much better than zip-loc bags. I keep one with flash cover and one w/out flash cover in bag.

Well, given where I live, and the fact we are out in all kinds of nasty weather, I needed something to keep the gear somewhat dry for those odd-ball situations.NOTE: If you are out in wet weather ALL the time, get something else! Its ok, but can make viewing the LCD somewhat hectic. You will probably also want to make sure your settings are just how you want them before you put this thing on, adjusting after its on can be....well, it can be done....but,,, On the same note, this thing fits my bill as I can stuff it in my pocket and pull it out to keep my cam dry in case of a nasty downpour, flood, ect.It is what it looks like, a fancy plastic bag with a loop of enclosed twine-yarn to cinch up the front. You could probably make your own, but at the same time, you may want something quick and easy that won't fall off the front of your glass, ect. the shot is more important.Final thoughts,, yep, its two [$] plastic bags (you get two in the package) but its peace of mind ( Put your $$ tag here) that your gear isn't getting drenched. ( I havn't tore it yet,,, it feels the same strength as one of those "heavier" plastic bags in the produce department. My recommendation is 50/50....personally, if you have access to pretty thick skinned plastic bags that cover your cam completely with a little extra...maybe you don't need to spend $$...if you don't, or just need something for backup cover..heck,,its only $6!!

Comments about Op/Tech Op/Tech 18" SLR Rainsleeve for Digital & Film Cameras with Lenses up to 7" Diameter, 18" Long.:
The Rainsleeve is great for light rain and snow. It is relatively easy to fit to the camera (in my case a Nikon D300 w/battery pack) and it is reusable several times. It took a little practice to get use to operating all of the camera controls with the Rainsleeve on, but for the money, this is a best buy that should be in every landscape photographer's bag.

This is easily attached. I like the viewfinder being on the outside but sealed. There were two in the package which was a pleasant surprise. But for an 8 hour day in a heavy rain I would rather have something in a different material, like a light canvas.

Comments about Op/Tech Op/Tech 18" SLR Rainsleeve for Digital & Film Cameras with Lenses up to 7" Diameter, 18" Long.:
I use a 400D with a 100-400 IS lens, for wildlife photography. Walking through the woods for deer in the winter while trying to keep the snow off my camera isn't fun, however, this Rain sleeve did the job. Is it perfect, no, I had to tape the bag to the hood of my camera to give it a good solid seal. However, the rest of the rain sleeve kept my camera nice and dry and still allowed me to have access to all of my controls. Would I use in a downpour, no, in a light rain or drizzle, or while moving to drier quarters, YES. You can not get better protection for the money.

Very good to have, for the price. Though I am against the use of plastics, as they build up on the planet, I will tape the holes in this cover and reuse. It saved my camera in some very rainy, sandy, dusty and salty situations on a trip to Costa Rica.
