Once you adjust the harness to fit your shoulders this is a pretty comfortable bag. Not amazing, but when you're carrying 40 pounds of photo gear over sand dunes, it's about as comfortable as it gets. I tried other bags and experienced more shoulder pain than this one delivers and it holds everything. I've used it for a year now and it has not begun to break down at all. No issues with stitching or zippers.

I'm a semi-pro photographer, I mostly do landscape/nature work so I'm no stranger to back packing and hauling equipment. This bag is great for storage, It seems that they did their homework in this area, roomy, excellent construction (some of the best I've ever seen in a bag), lots of possible configurations, etc.

However when it comes to back packing they just don't get it. THis is hands down the most uncomfortable (actually painful) back pack I have ever had the dis-pleasure to use.

I tested the bag out on a 3-mile hike with an elevation gain of ~1500 feet, not a huge deal. My equipment all fit nicely in the bag and I had room for several extra water bottles. The bag was quite heavy to start with although I've hiked heavy bags much longer than 3 miles before. The straps are adjustable but none of the settings except the extra large setting allowed the pack to sit close to where it should on my back. Note I'm only 5'6" tall, so this seemed odd - I wonder who would use the smaller settings which effectively raised the pack up higher on my back.

About a mile into the hike the area of my back where the lower part of the pack sat started to become sore and the pain increased throughout the hike. I adjusted the pack up and down through all the available hight settings and as painful as this was - it was the least painful setting.

The waist strap came straight across my belly area as opposed to my waist so it provided little to no help with supporting the pack.

The back pack straps are perhaps the worst part of all, they are poorly designed, almost an after thought it seems. Because of the way the pack rides the harness straps want to slide out wards on my shoulders, by the time I returned to the trail head I actually had bruises where the straps want to ride. Not only that but they are thin and minimally padded so I also had bruises across the top of my shoulders (everywhere the straps supported to packs weight). It seems that due to the poor design there is no weight distribution at all, the ultra heavy pack simply hangs on your shoulders and digs into your back with the other end.

I Hiked 80 pound packs in the Marine Corps for more than 20 miles and had less pain and bruising than this pack gave me in less than 3 miles.

I'm sending it back today
