My husband was using a regular backpack to transport his photo equipment. This is so much better and protects his equipment well. He also loved how easy it is to keep things organized. Great product for the price.

NOTE: The amazon description of this bag is a bit off. I don't think it could hold two bodies and four lenses very easily, plus accessories. But:

If you're looking for a compact bag to take on day hikes and other short excursions of any kind, this bag is really an excellent choice - as long as you like to travel light!

I looked at just about every small camera backpack available (Tamrac Adventure 6/7, Lowepro Fastpack and Flipside, etc.) and none had the perfect balance of compact size, gear space, and important to me - space for NON-camera gear. This Kata was the best.

In JUST the padded bottom section, I can easily carry: a Nikon D50, 18-70mm Zoom, 50mm prime, Sb-400 flash, charger with cord, rain cover, a few large filters, extra battery, cleaning supplies, and there's still an extra slot left, for another lens or whatever. And if you have more lenses, you could easily move the charger or cleaning stuff up to one of the other un-padded gear pockets to make room. (There are six "slots", the camera takes up one, the 18-70 is almost tall enough to take up another, etc.)I can even leave the SB-400 attached to the camera!

The top compartment is also a nice size, perfect for the rest of the gear you need for a short hike or day trip. I used it for maps, guide books, mini tripod, wallet, phone, stuff I bought on the road. It's definitely not HUGE by any definition, but it's got enough room for someone who likes to travel light.

Other than that, pluses include: it's pretty comfortable, seems well made, looks pretty cool for a camera backpack, has a nice padded handle, and you can even take out the camera padding if you just want a regular backpack some days. OH - one great thing - you can remove the waist belt completely! I never use these, and they just end up getting in the way on other bags - this comes off easily, a genius design!

Minuses? Not many: The padded camera area could be a BIT easier to close. It sort of "hinges" open, and though it's definitely not HARD to shut, sometimes it doesn't want to close without you having to push in on it a bit. And if you have gear in the upper compartment, sometimes you sort of have to lift it up so the camera body can clear the opening better. Only other minus (and they're picky): I wish you could remove the chest strap like you can with the waist strap, there's only one water bottle holder, and airflow to your back could be better (I don't sweat a lot, but my back was pretty wet after a short but strenuous hike in moderate temperatures...)

At this price though, those small minuses are FAR outweighed by the pluses. It's a no-brainer. Great backpack, for MY needs.

I had been looking for a photo backpack that could carry my DSLR, a few lenses and other accesories along with basics for a day hike. This bag covers everthing I need for a great day pack. I really like the bright yellow inside padding inserts for my camera and hiking gear, which makes it very easy to find what I need.
I also bought the model with the Manfrotto mono-pod with is a great addition for keeping things light and fast.
For myself and my needs I wanted a backpack to carry my camera and hiking gear with ease and still keep things light and fast to cover more distance on the trail. This Kata bag covers everything I could want in a photo backpack.
