Comments about Lowepro Lowepro Primus AW Premium Backpack - Black:

It might seem weird that I listed that it's easy and hard to access equipment, so let me explain. It depends what your setup is as far as ease of access. You can always easily access your gear by taking the pack off and opening the bottom, but if you are planning on using the side open, don't expect a pro body to fit out without modifying the bag. A D300 w/grip + 28-70 is a lost cause to try and get out without taking the thing off. Part of it is a thick lens barrel, and part of it is the hole just isn't large enough for the grip/body to comfortably fit through without jiggling. A thin lens with a grip works, but not easily, and no grip with a thick lens works alright. It's a very durable pack, great features. I now use it as my default carry-on bag, carrying my body and a couple lenses along with travel essentials. The tripod carry system works well enough, but I'd prefer it to be on the side as my tripod moves around a bit and it gets a bit annoying after several miles. Works, but somewhat annoying. Rain cover works great, though the bag by itself is pretty resistant to everything. Also has a very comfortable harness system, this coming from an avid backpacker.

Comments about Lowepro Lowepro Primus AW Premium Backpack - Black:

I just received this recently to carry a new Nikon D7000. Used it for the first time yesterday on a four mile mountain hike. Although the bag with the equipment has some weight, it was hardly noticeable. Very comfortable and well balanced. Accessing the camera while still having the bag on the shoulder wasn't too difficult, but putting it back in wasn't too easy. Not that big of a deal though!

The bag is well padded and had plenty of room for the Nikon D7000 with an 18-200mm lens, filters, and other small accessories. Could easily have stored another lens as well. The upper compartment stored a small rain jacket, bag of twizzlers (essential hiking gear), and a gorillapod. I also had a sweatshirt strapped in to the upper fold.

All-in-all, I'm quite happy with the purchase.

I love this bag, it's perfect for me because of the upper compartment that big enough to take my netbook and some school books, or in other day a hiking stuff and a lunch. I like how it is not bulky so I don't knock thing around. The size is perfect because if it can take more It would be too heavy to carry .
One thing I should mention, It's kind of heavy.

Typical durable LowePro construction. Found the camera storage area a little small and couldn't get use to access my D90 through the trap door. I ended up updating with a belt pack.

I have only had this pack for about a month, but I like it very much. I got this pack primarily because I like the medium-size camera equipment compartment and the other larger compartment for miscellaneous items. I do not plan to carry more than three lenses at a time, but I wanted space for camping equipment. The side flap is a nifty idea but I find that it is a bit awkward when I try to take my camera out. I may need more practice, but it seems like the opening is too small. Other than that, I think this pack has just about everything you will need.

Comments about Lowepro Lowepro Primus AW Premium Backpack - Black:

I like the Lowepro Backpack very much. It give me enough room to store my d90 with battery handle , 2 lenses (18-70 & 80-200/2.8) and a flash sb-600. It also gives me enough room to keep my daily need for hiking or outing with my kids. I also can keep a netbook or my 300mm F4 with case into upper storage area. It is very roomy and comfortable. Excellence balance. There is only 1 problem. It is very difficult to access my D90 with battery handle. If I move my handle, it is fine.

Comments about Lowepro Lowepro Primus AW Premium Backpack - Black:

This pack fits my needs. It stores my D80 with 18-200, my Bower flash and small accessories (extra battery, cords, memory cards). I might have room for a small extra lens, but that would be about it. The side opening is a little small, but I can get the D80 with the 18-200 out without much of a problem. Getting it back in is a little more problematic. I use a large Crumpler strap which is most of the problem. The tripod attachment in the back works well putting the weight of the tripod in the center. We are off to Europe for a few weeks this June and this pack is perfect for my needs. The upper compartment in the back stores a change of cloths and other personal items. The fact that the camera is fairly safe from thieves was a factor in my decision. You can store a small jacket in compartment in the back of the pack. My only real complaint is that there is no way to close this compartment. It is open to the elements and pickpockets. There is a built in water resistant cover, but you can't use it if you are carrying the tripod. All in all...a great pack.

I would recommend it to a friend and I did. He ended up getting one as well.

Comments about Lowepro Lowepro Primus AW Premium Backpack - Black:

The bag is large and the build-quality is extremely high. It feels great is is solid. The straps are highly-configurable. The internal dividers are moderately configurable. Due to the unique shapes of the dividers, there's not a whole lot of custom configuration you can do besides simply removing some of them.

The worst part of the bag is the accessibility of your camera through the side-opening. The opening is simply too small even for my 40D. It's simply impossible to get the camera in or out.

Comments about Lowepro Lowepro Primus AW Premium Backpack - Black:

I wanted a backpack style camera bag for field trips, and on paper this Primus AW does it all. Weather cover, Tripod holder, comfy harness, side access to the camera compartment, configurable partitions (to some degree!). Also the 'main' zippers for the camera gears are towards the users back (just like flipside series) so you can have peace of mind that you're gears are not likely to be pinched easily.
I found the side access a bit too tight though - maybe good for security but not good if you want this bag for the fast-drawing of your camera. My Pentax K20D with battery grip struggles to go in. I saw a marketing material somewhere that a Canon 1D series camera was pictured together so I thought mine should go in like a breeze but it wasn't to be. Entry level cameras like Canon 3-digit, Pentax K-x and the likes won't have any problem with the side entry. Bigger cameras with no battery grips (eg. Canon 2-digit bodies and Pentax K20D, K-7) should fit without too much hassle. Anything with battery grips - it can go in but with struggle.
And the partitions inside are not as configurable as some other bags may offer - because of the velcro can attach to certain sides only. If your camera looks more like T than an L from the top, the layout of the partition may not be the best fit either.
I wish the bottom part of the bag - ie. the camera compartment - bigger, with plush fit of partitions as well as bigger rear entry.
If you have a smallish camera with 2 lens and a flashgun, wanting a weather proof bag with tripod holder, this will be the perfect bag.
As for those with bigger cameras this could have been perfect - only if the extra 2% was there.

Comments about Lowepro Lowepro Primus AW Premium Backpack - Black:

Great for light hiking. This bag easily stores my 30D, my 70-200, a standard zoom, and a flash in the photo equipment section of the bag, several personal items (jacket, pants, binoculars, etc) in the top compartment, as well as my slik 700dx (see big & heavy) tripod in the tripod straps. With the bag full of the above, the bag is still comfortable and feels secure and well balanced. My only complaint is that I didnt think this bag was going to be quite as large or as heavy as it turned out to be, but this is not a huge problem for me.

Comments about Lowepro Lowepro Primus AW Premium Backpack - Black:

How I use the product:
Day hiking and transporting of my gear. This works great for both, and the top compartment is plenty big enough for non camera stuff like clothes and personal effects.

Things that are great about it:
Easy access to gear, protects gear very well. Very comfortable (and I have a long torso).
Price is good.

Things that aren't so great about it:
Tri Pod carrier is a bit odd. You will whack into things with it if you are not careful. Too many straps. I like the amount of adjustments you can make, but I think they got a little strap happy.

Comments about Lowepro Lowepro Primus AW Premium Backpack - Black:

This bag is nice and the only flaw i find in its design is the shape and space of the padding in the camera compartment. On of them is sort of tapered, making it hard to fit anything tall and it is just a bit awkward in there, as a huge portion of the space is in the main camera area which is fine if you have a very long lens attached always. otherwise i find myself concerned about having fall out, whatever is stored at the end of the lens attached to my camera and due to the one tapered section on the bottom, i have put something tall like my sb-60 flash. I am wishing i would have bought the Fastpack 250 0r 300 because i was looking for an all around transport carry-on that could house my laptop at least for travel. I read a review that said the top compartment could hold a small laptop. I am able to fit mine in by undoing the velcro, opening up the top compartment into the lower one. I wouldn't buy this to carry any laptop bigger than 11" In the end i got this because of the recycled materials and the fact it had a raincover. some of Lowe's other products weren't in stock for some weeks. I think used solely as the go out in the city or outdoors and shoot bag, it will be fine, as well the padding can be removed and your gear stored in its own padded cases and you'd have lots of room in the pack. If the fastpack had come with a raincover i would have bought it instead, but decided to keep and use this one and am overall very happy with it.

Comments about Lowepro Lowepro Primus AW Premium Backpack - Black:

Overall, Lowepro did a nice job on this bag. It has a place for everything one would need on a day hike, even a tripod and water bottle holder. I would have given it 5 stars save for one nit...and that is the side access opening needs to be bigger. A 40D with zoom is a struggle to slide through without taking off one shoulder strap. It would probably work fine for smaller form factor equipment. Other than that, it is well built, doesn't *look* like a camera bag, has good security since the equipment bay opening is through the *back*, and all compartments can be accessed w/o taking the bag off completely. It's not perfect, but it's pretty darn close for my needs.
