This bag is very useful, as long as your needs are understood.It is mainly a storage, transportation, and on site gear bag in my use.
This bag is heavily padded all the way around. It is stiff walled and therefore stands out off your back when wearing it. The straps are very thick to accomodate weight. The tripod foot holder does an excellent job at keeping the tripod from hitting you when walking, and the straps are very secure with locks on them to prevent accidental release. I currently keep 2 D90 bodies, lenses, multiple sb-600 flashes, filters, cards, and assorted gear in the bag at all times. This is subject to personal configuration. There is also multiple pockets throughought, card storage, and general storage in the front. There is even a document pocket handy for contracts, model releases, or other documents.Also available is a rain cover for those times when mother nature doesnt cooperate.
Now for the downsides. This bag is very large. I have a tendency to hit things with it when i am wearing it and i turn around.This is worse with a tripod attached. This bag holds so much gear it may carry more gear than you want to / are able to carry. This bag is not a good choice for hiking or long distance carrying unless their is a need for lots of equipment. Their are much better choices for small amounts of gear.
Overall, this is the best bag I have owned yet for the needs indicated. It carries alot of gear, carries it safely, and does it with style. I give it four stars only because its not perfect, but what is.

Great bag if you just want to store or carry your gear. Travel on an airliner? Forget it. This thing is so big it won't fit under ANY airline seat and will, so far, only fit in a widebody's overhead, and that with great difficulty. I trusted the stupid icon on Lowepro's website saying this is carry-on baggage. WRONG! Terribly misleading. Very unhappy I bought this bag as my primary reason for buying it was to take on trips.
