Domke Camera bag F-1x
Fits my current needs. Similar to the 'soft' styled bag I've used in the past. I purchased this specific Domke because I was unable to duplicate my 20+ year worn out camera bag.
Close inspection tells me the Domke F-1x is well made and will probably last well beyond my years. I like the idea of inserts. Using the not so cheap inserts, you can pre- make up equipment outfits to fit your varied shoots and make a job ready to go in seconds. This beats the aggravation of having to re-configure the entire interior of your bag to fit a shoot, as was the case with my old bag.
I like the size of exterior pockets and the Velcro flaps vice straps and buckles. These exterior pockets allow my older (and fatter) hands fast access without any thought involved.
I'm partial to 'soft sided' bags because that is what I'm accustomed to. They mold to your body and are easy to work out of. The bag easily slides into airline bins, taxi cabs, and buses. Maneuvering in elevators, crowds, and photo platforms, aisles of aircraft or buses is no problem. Since I am usually gentle and careful with all photographic equipment the soft bag is not a detriment. However, I would never ship equipment in this bag … it is totally unsuited for shipping equipment—duh!
Caution: I purchased this bag to fit my current needs…. If you intend to max this bag out and have it on your shoulder all day… buy a back brace or get a gym membership. Believe me, at the end of a day's shoot… the bag will win!.. Your back will lose.
One thing I hate… and one of the features why I purchased this bag is—the top carrying handle. I wanted a top handle whose support came from the bottom of the bag rather than the top (lid). This bag is designed that way. However using the top carrying handle on my specific bag unbalances the bag. When carried (only) by the handle it feels unbalanced thus uncomfortable. I feel like it will tip over and perhaps something will fall out. No amount of strap adjustment has been able to cure or stabilize the situation. I have contacted Domke for a solution but they have yet to respond. I hope their non attention to a complaint or inquiry is not indicative of their product. If it were not for this personal issue I would rate it 4 stars. No problems exist when carried on the shoulder.

I have one Domke bag for my Digital 35's and one for my Medium format equipment. If you are a lens and camera junky like myself you have two cameras and 5 or six lenses, 2-3 flashes and all the accessories. I use the Domke bags for storage and to take on location. I usually take 1 Nikon D200 and 2 lenses and 1 645 Mamiya Pro with two lenses and the Nikon flash system to my shoots. This bag carries it all. Now all I need is a good assistant to carry the lighting bags and gear and I will be all set.
