This case holds my Nikon 600mm lens with both lens hoods on in the stored position, placed backwards on the lens. Of course it would not hold the lens with the hoods in the fully extended position. I also have the foot on with a plate and a padded cushion around the body end of the lens. It offers excellent protection and convenient means of carrying a heavy lens.

One reviewer found that the case cannot hold the 600mm lens. I'm not challenging that, but that review did make me cautious about getting CL-L2 for my 500mm lens. I went ahead and got one. It fits. I can even leave the 1.7 extender attached.

A convenient way to carry a Nikon 400mm 2.8G or similar sized lens with or without a camera body mounted on it. Not big enough for a teleconverter mounted too, but you can't always have everything. The shoulder strap support could be a better design for long hikes, but for transportation in a car and short walking distances, it is perfect. I use it all the time.

This is the bag supplied with the 200-400 AF-S VR, which is a great lens. When I suffered a house fire, this bag protected my lens from smoke damage. I bought this one as a replacement. Sometimes I use it to transport the lens to an event, if I'm not using one of my larger camera bags.
