Haven't really used this thing enough to make a serious statement about its pro's or cons. This is actually my second one because the first one I ordered and received was deficient according to the manufacturer who was contacted.

Comments about LaCie LaCie Desktop Hard Drive, 1 TB Disk Drive with Hi-Speed USB 2.0, for Mac & Windows, Neil Poulton Design:

i bought this drive to setup as a shared drive through a Belkin N+ router. The router has a USB port to connect a USB drive to and it worked with my Seagate USB drive just fine. When I tried using the LaCie drive not only did the drive not show up but it also caused the router to lose its connection to my DSL modem. I contacted LaCie tech support and was told they do not support this drive used in this way. Kinda the "It's not my table" attitude. I tried to point out that it is a USB drive and I was attempting to use it plugged into a USB port. They replied that the drive is only meant to be plugged directly into the computer and they were not interested in helping with this configuration. They likened it to putting airplane wings on a car and expecting Ford to help make it fly. I told them it was more like buying a car with a power outlet and wanting support to plug in your Ipod. They had absolutely no interest in helping or any curiosity as to why their product behaved the way it did. COMPLETELY USELESS!!

I have 3 of these for data back up. Less than one year after buying, 2 of the 3 drives are dead. Thank god I had my doubts and double backed up. It's internal Seagate and Western Digital for me from here on out.

I purchased 2 of these for file storage and back-up. First of all I was shocked at how small it is, and second I was shocked at how easy it was to install and use. I was up and running within 5 minutes!

I have other LaCie products and all are reliable. This is no exception. I use it for my backup from my iMac, using Apple's Time Machine. Reformatted first to GUID. Works flawlessly. Is fairly fast as a USB device. Would purchase again if needed.

Comments about LaCie LaCie Desktop Hard Drive, 1 TB Disk Drive with Hi-Speed USB 2.0, for Mac & Windows, Neil Poulton Design:

The unit I received did not work with Vista 64. It did not work with Vista 32. It did not work with Windows XP. The tech support was responsive but not very helpful. They insisted I provide them with a serial number and there is no serial number available on this stylish unit. I finally gave up on it and sent it back at my expense.
