Comments about Nikon Nikon FH-3 35mm Strip Film Holder for Coolscan, IV, V, 4000, 5000 (Replacement):

As the other reviewers said, this is a cheap piece of equipment that takes a little care to use. However, I admit it works ok and what other good choices are there? If it were $4.95 instead of over $20, I am not sure I would complain. Clearly, Nikon takes advantage of the cornered market. The biggest frustration actually is that there are times that the scan does not work (an error message comes up during the scan). By trying multiple times, using different spots on the part, and/or moving the negative, I was able to get all of them to finally work.

Comments about Nikon Nikon FH-3 35mm Strip Film Holder for Coolscan, IV, V, 4000, 5000 (Replacement):

I bought an insert for my Nikon 5000 scanner and that was a waste since it will only scan the first and last frames of a negative strip. The film holder works with the slide insert very well. I found it easy to use. The hardest part was lining up the strip so that the edges of each frame corresponded with the divisions of the adapter.

Comments about Nikon Nikon FH-3 35mm Strip Film Holder for Coolscan, IV, V, 4000, 5000 (Replacement):

I purchased this film holder to use with my Nikon Coolscan V ED, which I purchased new. I'm a relative novice to scanning, but have found this particular accessory to be well suited to its purpose. It seems a bit flimsy, but if handled properly should have a decent service life. It also takes a little practice to insert the film correctly -- but, once I got the hang of it, I have had few, if any, problems.

As another reviewer noted, the film holder itself comes with no instructions. However, the scanner manual that came with the Coolscan V ED does have reasonably detailed instructions on how to insert the film into the film holder, plus instructions on how to use the film holder in the scanner.

I've used the device a fair amount so far (i.e. about 75-80 frames) and it works as advertised. Combined with the Coolscan V ED, it gives good results.

Comments about Nikon Nikon FH-3 35mm Strip Film Holder for Coolscan, IV, V, 4000, 5000 (Replacement):

I recently purchased a Nikon Coolscan V and began scanning negatives and slides. One roll had a segment with about 1 1/2 frames at the end, which the scanner can't handle with the normal adapter. Checking around I saw the options were mounting in a single frame in a slide holder, or the FH-3. After further research I found reviews that weren't very positive, but I thought I'd give Nikon the benefit of the doubt and I really wanted an option to scan single and end of roll partial negatives without having to cut the film and mount them.

It came with no directions and I fumbled a while to figure out how to load the negative strip. I was able to mount, align and scan, but it is clumsy at best. I was in constant fear of breaking the flimsy plastic in the holder as well as damaging the film.

This is not up to the standrds that I expect from Nikon. It gets a two stars only because I was able to get it to work without damaging anything yet. It works, but... be prepared to be frustrated.
