Everything others said, the case is a real plus. One thing though I still can't figure out is why are all the pics so grainy with the scans. Versus my Canoscan 8800f, which also uses silverfast.

So far it seems to do a good job. I am still trying to learn all of the ins and outs of the software.

Good value for the price.

Comments about Plustek Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE, 7200 dpi Film Scanner with Automatic Dust and Scratch Removal, USB 2.0:

As stated by everyone, the software has a real learning curve, but with practice and patience the results are superb. The only flaw that I've found is that the IR scratch and dust removal system is not compatible with a lot of black & white films. Apparently, the silver in the emulsion reflects the IR and causes a really weird fractal or mosaic pattern in the scan. The solution is simple just turn the IR system off. I've scanned in a couple of hundred negatives and the more I use it the more I like it. I have ordered a second film carrier so I can be loading one while the other is scanning. The most important thing is to read the instructions and follow them to the letter.

Comments about Plustek Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE, 7200 dpi Film Scanner with Automatic Dust and Scratch Removal, USB 2.0:

Compared to other, less expensive slide scanners I've tried, the results from the 7600i SE are far, far better. It seems to make the many dust spots that I always got with other slide scanners magically disappear. I'd rank it as "serious amateur" or "semi-pro" quality and worth the extra dollars. The software is a bit involved, but it's bound to be, given the scanner's capabilities. The front panel controls feel a bit cheap, but they work fine. I wish I'd spent the extra $$ on this unit first rather than wasting it on lesser scanners.

Comments about Plustek Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE, 7200 dpi Film Scanner with Automatic Dust and Scratch Removal, USB 2.0:

The scanner works well for scanning slides and negatives. Construction seems solid and I had no problems setting it up. The software is the real star. It's amazing and removing dust and scratches. It does well in adjusting the color of old slides. My only real complaint is that it's completely manual and you have to move the slide holder for the next image. It would be great if it fed automatically. A second slide holder would be good to move the process along faster.

Comments about Plustek Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE, 7200 dpi Film Scanner with Automatic Dust and Scratch Removal, USB 2.0:

Great news! You can win a $70 gift card from Plustek if you write a positive review on the vendor website (ie here). It says so on a flyer included with the scanner. Look again through the positive reviews on this site. Do you see a winner?

My scanner never worked. During prescan and scan it produced vertical bars without any image information. I am an experienced user and believe it is hardware malfunction. Tried it both in Mac and WinXP to same effect (no effect). The toll-free support number is disconnected (a particularly nice touch). I am sending this back to Adorama for full refund.

Had to reload software as for some unexplained reason scanner just quit working. All I would get on the preview scan was a black grainey image. Working OK now.
