Software loads but scanner will not scan images!
Hard to load. If you want to waste several hours of your time trying to get this thing to work, do it. I'm sorry I wasted mine!! I bought mine at Sharper Image before they folded their tent, so I can't take it back...

[...] However, I was very disappointed when the software did not work on my Vista running Laptop Computer, even though the program stated it would work. I felt duped and sent it back after multiple times of trying to get it to work. A consumer should not have find or load product patches for software to maintain it's working function. The product should come to the buyer with a 100% working function.

This unit is being returned. I bought it because the picture on the box shows a negative being turned into a photograph and that it's discription say 'Film Converter" thinking it would convert a negative to a postive. All it does is copy the negative image.

Comments about VuPoint Solutions VuPoint Solutions FS-C1-VP Film Scanner with 5.0 Mega Pixels CMOS Sensor, USB 2.0 Interface, Windows XP:

For an inexpensive scanner it is satisfactory for the personal user for low volume scanning of slides. The uploading from the scanner to the computer is slow -- takes a little over minute for each slide. There is NO indicator to tell you that the uploading of the 12 scans is completed which would be a great improvement. Also the automatic light control many times over compensates so the slide will look washed out - especially in the faces of persons close up.The software is missing a .dll file which the company says is not needed, but a popup says it is needed. I was able to get it working on a desktop with Windows XP home SP3 without the missing .dll, but it will not work on my laptop with Windows XP Pro SP3. [...].I would recommend the purchase of this slide scanner to anyone who has a low volume to scan. I have scanned over 1500 slides since I got it about 1-1/2 months ago.

Comments about VuPoint Solutions VuPoint Solutions FS-C1-VP Film Scanner with 5.0 Mega Pixels CMOS Sensor, USB 2.0 Interface, Windows XP:

Performs as advertised. Often the image is too light, and there are limitations on adjusting. Good software for the price. It is time consuming, but expected for the price. Overall I got what I paid for. I still have my slides if I want to do more with some, but it is converting everything good enough for posterity.

For the money it is a great device, if you can follow instructions then you will have no problem using this scanner. There are more expensive and better scanners out there if you want to spend the money, but this one works very well. I'm saving 50 to 60 year old 35 mm slides to a digital format, and this works very well. I'm enjoying saving these old slides for the next generation of our family. You will also!

I am reminded of the old joke about the guy that goes into the pet shop and all the little birds go, "Cheep, Cheep, Cheep." This thing is cheap and all the baggage that goes with cheap. Try as I might I can find nothing to recommend it. I will try to send it back tomorrow but I can't imagine why they would accept it. I know I wouldn't!

Comments about VuPoint Solutions VuPoint Solutions FS-C1-VP Film Scanner with 5.0 Mega Pixels CMOS Sensor, USB 2.0 Interface, Windows XP:

My Dad bought this and asked me to install it for him. He is 90 and I am 60. It took me about 2 hours to get it up and running. Then I couldn't get the software to find the scanner, well there is a drop-down that shows all of the devices and you have to pick the one you want. So I guessed and it worked. Next I had to open the slide holder. That took several minutes to figure out how to get it opened. So we get it opened and placed 3 slides in it and insert it into the scanner. I started the scan and in about 20 sec. I had an image on the screen about 5" square. It looked like it had been photo copied, not scanned. After reading some other reviews the contrast was set too high. Anyway after 3 hrs today I put in back into the box and it is going back. I have to find another scanner that a 90 year old can operate. Too complicated and too much work for the poor to fair scan. He has 60 Kodak slide reels to scan.

Comments about VuPoint Solutions VuPoint Solutions FS-C1-VP Film Scanner with 5.0 Mega Pixels CMOS Sensor, USB 2.0 Interface, Windows XP:

While not a heavy duty production system, this scanner has been working great for almost all of our very old slides. The intensity contrast steps a bit too far at times but you can grab the picture at the level you like to compensate. Wish it had some form of control over that. Otherwise, it's fast, it does a nice job of balancing color on old yellow slides and is easy to use.

Bottom Line:

Comments about VuPoint Solutions VuPoint Solutions FS-C1-VP Film Scanner with 5.0 Mega Pixels CMOS Sensor, USB 2.0 Interface, Windows XP:

* The software installation is possible on WinXP SP2 but not works on WinXP SP1
* Scanned negatives is not possible to convert to positive with this software.
* Mechanical design is less than poor. The slide holder accepts only slides with
paper frames. In order to remove them you must touch the slide with your finger.
*The exit holder gate have 1mm plastic pin as a hinge. In my case broke at 2-nd
attempt to insert the slide holder into scanner. (Works one way only right to left).
*Final results is a disappointment, quality of scanned image on monitor is visible
lower quality than the slide is. Probably due to poor power source as USB port is.
*This experience makes mi put my box of slides back in to closet and try to forget
this very slow process of digitizing my slides.

Comments about VuPoint Solutions VuPoint Solutions FS-C1-VP Film Scanner with 5.0 Mega Pixels CMOS Sensor, USB 2.0 Interface, Windows XP:

This is a device that will let you scan in your old negatives and color slides without using the big clumsy scanner that takes up so much room.
It worked without problem after I followed directions supplied with the software. Load in the Scanner Driver and Photoimpressions 6 software. Then you can attach the device to your USB 2.0 port. The computer will then see it as a new hardware, click on the Icon on your desk top, (Photo Impressions 6) and you will be able to bring up the proper window to aquire pictures. I use Photoshop Elements 5 only because I didn't want to learn a new photo handling program. I spend a few minutes with Elements removing any dust from years past and the results are amazing. Color, Black and White they look better than they did 50 years ago.

Comments about VuPoint Solutions VuPoint Solutions FS-C1-VP Film Scanner with 5.0 Mega Pixels CMOS Sensor, USB 2.0 Interface, Windows XP:

Unit does work with XP and have used it on a Vista machine with no problems. Be mindful that the 3600dpi is interpolated and produces little or no discernible improvement. Other than producing huge files with the TIF format. Havent yet determined whether it is or is not recording through glass which could produce distortion. Doesn beat digitalizing with my Sony F707 but will do to archive/catalog old slides while I have the originals.

Best Uses:

Bottom Line:

Comments about VuPoint Solutions VuPoint Solutions FS-C1-VP Film Scanner with 5.0 Mega Pixels CMOS Sensor, USB 2.0 Interface, Windows XP:

Software works on XP Pro SP 2 but USB 1.1 DOES NOT! New Vista Ultimate w/USB 2.0 works fine. Slides must be scanned 1 at a time, saved and transfered before another can be scanned. TOO TIME CONSUMING!!! If you have only a few slides and lots of time or a child with nothing to do, this might be a solution otherwise spend more money.

I also got one as a gift, and it doesn't work on any of my XP machines, and it is not supported on Linux.

I get the impression, although I can't say for sure, that the problem is that it expects to be the only device on the system.

Attempting to install the software it did manage to mess up other USB devices, so you might consider testing this on a box you can reload before plugging it into a valuable computer.
